yeah Zelda, we are supposed to be communal as well and I don't mind that. the landlord is supposed to be making adjustments to my rent accordingly but it hasn't happened yet (I just hit a month there). this place was total bachelor pad/frat house fare when I got there. if it were left up to them the pantry would be chilie beans and mac and cheese. they totally love that I'm cooking, and I like to. I just need the landlord to get off his arse and do the accounting. and I need his brother's *friend* to unhook from my hip. all 3 of them, the landlord, the brother and the friend show up whenever they feel like it and stay at the house for however long they feel like it.... weird sort of lifestyle. pretty weird for me too. I feel like there is a revolving door.

This isn't a situation I'd be at all comfortable with, unless I already knew the people involved very well. I'm a little concerned for your safety, never mind your sanity.

I'm not at all concerned for my safety... one roomie is an Army Cpt attending school where I work, the other is a fruit cake in his own right, harmless but fruity as all get out... doesn't work, never has. he's about 40ish, 4'11 maybe 105 pounds... he's supposed to be a caretaker at the house. the landlord has apartment bldgs in San Jose and Santa Cruz, the brother is retired from Lockheed Martin, and the *friend* is a translator for the state for people who have workers comp claims.

my sanity however..... whoooo boy!

lalala! better and better... we are having rolling brown outs due to the "severe heat wave" many people are being sent home. but! booyah! we have a generator.

It's when the electricity supply isn't cut off, but the voltage is reduced. Caused by more (temporary) demand than can be supplied.

Extremely rare in Western Europe, but apparently common in the US, which has much larger distances on its supply lines.

thanks. i'd never heard that expression before. here, when the power goes out, it goes out completely and it's usually due to some sort of accident.

that's normal for where I normally live. California is notorious for rolling brownouts. we are having 90+ heat in an area that rarely goes over 75 in the summer time. there's a monster highpressure ridge just off the coast. there are however, supposedly some cooling trends and even possibly small showers right on the heels of this high pressure.

gak! I am a snow creature by nature! just a month and a half ago the pup, kindle kitten and I were romping about in out natural element! the poor critters were layed out on the floor panting when I got home last night. you know it's HOT when the kitties are panting.

*sigh* they just authorized early release for the other side of post... not us though
