OPDS search of Calibre

Is it possible to limit the OPDS search to just the Author, Title, or Author+Title combo?

Often, if I enter specific search items for author name or parts of title, I get resulting books which do include those search items, but also include LOADS of other books with no apparent relation to the search items

No OPDS doesnt have such features. Use the calibre content server which has the full power of calibre search.

How do I do it accessing the content server via a browser. The result I get seems to be the same as OPDS.

The search field allows the exact same syntax as searching in calibre https://manual.calibre-ebook.com/gui...arch-interface

A few images to help out.

I'm going to assume that you started the content server, connected to it, selected a library if you have more than one and then clicked on the magnify glass icon which is pretty much the standard search icon. You would then enter the search query pretty much the same as you would in the calibre GUI. See the link posted by Kovid Goyal for the full syntax.

For instance, say I want to search for books with Eric Flint as an author, the search query would be 'author:"Eric Flint"', to search for books with Eric as the author and that do not have 163 in the title, the search query would be 'author:"Eric Flint" and not title:"163"'

Leave off the single quotes.

If you really feel enthused, you can use the FTS (Full Text Search) to search for words inside books. This needs some caution since you can literally get thousands of results with a poor choice of search string.

Thank you both! Something I should have learned years ago, but had been “spoiled” by ‘Marvin’, which loads title/author info to local app (from Calibre database stored on Dropbox)….and search is just of those items. I am now trying out ‘Mapleread’ which interfaces via OPDS.

I was easily able to use the (now obvious) search parameters in browser to the content server. Just for the heck of it, I tried in Mapleread using OPDS. The same searches seem to also work there. (It just doesn’t warn you about Apple’s smart quotes &#128512.
