My body reacts before my mind has fully recognised the danger, I dive into a prone position as a bullet flashes past my shoulder and another deafening crack echoes through the sewer.

As the simulation dissolves away Captain Reynolds realises he's completely naked in the holodeck, with four levels between him and his quarters.

“Computer, side-transport me to my quarters.” Nothing happened except a small wisp of smoke from the holodeck entrance, smelling remarkably like fried mushroom.

"I'm sorry Dave, I can't do th-at-at-at-at-at..." the computer stutters, then the nearest speaker pops and crackles into a further plume of smoke.

Just then Captain hears a commotion outwith the holodeck doors. It’s the maintenance team, and fortunately they have a spare set of (mushroom coloured) overalls with them, though they don’t yet know that the Captain will need them.
