Using Kobocloud with KOReader

TLDR: Is there a way to get KOReader to see books synced by Kobocloud?

After hours of trying to get KOReader’s built-in Dropbox integration to work, I’ve given up. There are (supposedly) excellent guides out there, but I just cannot get it to work. However, setting up Kobocloud with Google Drive was a breeze.

The problem is that while the native Kobo reader can find the files synced by Kobocloud, KOReader does not.

The obvious solution – or so I thought – was to make a symbolic link from the Library folder in the .add directory where Kobocloud is installed (a location not monitored by KOReader, I deduce) to a folder directly under the onboard folder, thus putting the files somewhere where KOReader is actually looking for them.

However, when SSH-ing into the Kobo and trying:

ln -s /mnt/onboard/.add/kobocloud/Library/ /mnt/onboard/SyncedLibrary

It returns the error:

ln: /mnt/onboard/SyncedLibrary/: Operation not permitted

I’m logged in as root, so I can’t see how it would be a permissions issue?

Any ideas on how to get KOReader to find Kobocloud synced books?

Not a permissions issue, but a FAT32 issue (i.e., there's no such thing as symlinks).

But you can just create folder favorites in KOReader. In this case maybe you overlooked the show hidden folders setting? (Top left file browser icon →settings → show hidden files)

Wow. That's a much easier way, for sure. It's so obvious now. My god. Thank you.
