Is there a way to automatically export the library

Basically what it says on the tin

I read a lot away from home, but the sites I use to download new books are blocked on my laptop. I used to sync calibre to google drive, but after hearing about it hiding books from calibre I turned it off.

Is there a way to get calibre to export the entire library to a folder - Ideally every time a change is made, but on startup would work too - so that I can sync that folder with google drive and not have to worry about breaking stuff?

You can use FreeFileSync (mirror mode) to mirror a copy to another folder. Close Calibre before you start FreeFileSync, and never use the two-way mode.

Thanks @Sirtel for suggesting FreeFileSync, it has become my current and definitive solution for library backup (on a external HDD).

This worked, thank you!

For Backreaders: To get it to sync automatically, I set up my folders, went to file -> save as batch job, then went to my desktop and opened RealTimeSync (if it's not there, check C:\Program Files\FreeFileSync).
Then I went to file -> open and opened that same batch job, set the time to 60 seconds, saved that, and started it.
You'll still have to start RealTimeSync up manually though unless you set it to run upon login.

FreeFileSync is the best. Forget the others mentioned.

The prices of M.2 SSD drives has dropped considerably. You could get a 1TB or 2TB M.2 SSD drive and a USB case for it. Then you can use FreeFileSync to sync your library to the SSD drive via USB. That means your library would be with you can very portable.

It's not, doesn't run on Android or IOS for a start.

Neither does Calibre, so you'll have to use Windows/Linux/MacOS anyway to back up your library.

YMMV - but I prefer to backup my calibre libraries along with everything else on 8 devices which are a mix of Windows, MacOS, Android and IOS (only one of which has calibre installed) to the same storage locations using the same software (GoodSync).

On iOS the reviews aren’t good (not integrated in iOS) and for android it looks like you still need a PC for syncing to NAS - not exactly ideal.

It works for the three of us - including one person who is frequently off shore.

You seem to have a habit of responding to my posts in a negative manner - may I ask why?

You may and I can tell you that you are wrong.
I have only looked at your proposed software

I still think my solution of an external M.2 drive and FreeFileSync to back-up is the best solution. It means if you don't have a net connection (or fast enough), you still have your library in full and easily accessible.

so no way of having a hook on exit of calibre, to refresh an exported library with latest added ebooks?
