Extra Files Manager

Currently in source (and available next release) is a dialog to manage the extra data files through Edit Metadata > Manage Data Files

You can double-click (or enter) on an item in the manager to open it in the system-default program. There's also an 'open with' action which I think uses the Calibre-specified programs.

it has nothing to do with metadata, if it did it would be in a database column.

In my original ticket, I suggested either a separate toolbar button or putting it under view (though I suppose the latter could confuse the 'data files aren't formats' thing)

Extra files are metadata about the book. Just like the cover file. Or the formats files which are manageable from the actual edit metadata dialog.

Thanks, that a nice addition.

A little extra that can be really appreciated would be make the manager accessible from the metadata editing dialog... but this is a already very rich dialog, and I personaly haven't had the inspiration to insert it elegantly way.

Also, I'm not fan of the label/button "Open with..." on the same line than the file name. I think it would be better if it were in separate lines.
The fact that the "Open with..." label/button clogs up/jumps and changes vertical position every time you change file is really unpleasant to me. It's not a "consistent" layout.

What do you mean by it changes vertical position? It changes horizontal position, yes, but vertical position stays the same unless the file name is long enough to cause wrapping.

can we have like some shortcut to 'mergedata' - make one record/book becoming data for other book? I have tons of books that I would like to make into data folder because they are excerpt, sample, translation etc. of a master book...
