Researching lawnmowers.

The handle on my Flymo broke so I'm getting a new one.

I only have small front and back lawns, so I'm looking at smallish machines. Don't think I'll get another Flymo, I might get a Bosch or maybe Al-Ko or maybe some other make entirely.

I am considering my options. We all got summoned to a meeting in my university department today. It was announced as being about a new pay structure. But we were told that all the humanities teaching in the department is to be cut. If this happens then I will be made redundant. So will all my staff and a lot of my colleagues.
(The departmental chair merely commented that this would mean a change to our strategic plan.)
I got made redundant from my other university job last year. Naturally, we are planning a campaign but, if it fails then I will be needing a new job. Does anyone want an editor and converter of ebooks?

oh patricia i'm so sorry to hear that ! do you have some other places you could teach, if it happens ? or would you be interested in doing something else ? you might have been joking, but maybe you could get hired on as a consultant by a publisher who doesn't have any idea how to make ebooks, but wants to...

i will be crossing my fingers for you and i hope it all works out for the best, whatever happens. please do let us know how things go.

Unfortunately, there will probably be a lot of redundancies. There aren't that many openings for academics and my staff will also be after any. We will be campaigning to save the department but our chances are not very good. I have a possibility of a sideways move, but nothing is at all definite.

Sorry to hear about the bad luck, Patricia. Seems like everywhere is getting hit at the moment with redundancies. I know three or four who've been "let go" in the last couple of weeks. Fingers crossed that it works out for you.

I am so sorry to hear that, Patricia. Apparently, education cuts are world wide. Thousands in my state alone. I hope you are able to find something soon.

Here is a really stupid side issue here. Many teachers won't know until AUGUST if they will have a job next year. And, realize that school starts the end of August. Apparently the district feels no one will mind just hanging around waiting. What they are suppose to do until then is not addressed. The stress must be enormous. Of course, I see no cuts in the state legislatures enormous budgets, or staff, or in the district's bloated staff.

Again, my sympathies.

Oh, Patricia! I'm so sad for you, that is terrible news. I wish I could offer you advice or something useful.

Saying one is redundant is appalling. What's the reason for this, government cuts? That really makes me angry.

Please pardon my temper outbreak. It is aimed at my former employer still.

That is sad. Knowledge is the food of our offspring, they will cut off those who teach? Why? To enrich greedy b*******?
