Perhaps the cell edit shortcuts (F2, Shift+F2, '=', '-' and 'space') should be in a keyboard shortcut group; the latter three work on numbers and dates once you're in cell edit mode… they might work in MDE too.

I tested it here on Windows 11, and first it looks random, sometimes shift+click working and sometimes not.
Then I got it: 1) Put the tag cell on edit mode (F2, or select and then click on it again) 2) Get out of edit mode 3) Shift+clicking on that same cell always bring the dialog 4) Shift+clicking on other cells does not bring the dialog |

Whats an empty tag cell?? You can press F2 to edit an existing tag, but how are you getting an empty tag cell? And yes editing an existing tag and pressing enter and then shift clicking either the edited tag or the currently focused one (in case the edit moved the tags around) does not popup the dialog for me.

This is what I did.
1. Fresh install of calibre Portable version 6.23 2. Single left-clicked in Tags cell of the "Quick Start Guide" 3. Typed 'calibre' 4. Pressed Enter 5. Shift+Left-clicked in the still selected Tags cell. Manage items dialogue popped. BR |

This will be some random Qt quirk I dont feel the motivation to investigate and workaround it at the moment.

At a guess I'd say the 'quirk' was introduced when the Shift+F2 feature was added for Tags and similar book-list cells. BR |

yeah the Qt quirk is that shift+click is generating an edit request when it shouldn't. Edit requests are supposedly generated only by single clicks or any modifier+f2 (and any modifier + enter on macOS)

Wow I had no idea this feature existed, I've been editing tags using the text box lol. Oh wow there's even a tags editor in tag browser... useful!
I'm on a mac too, can confirm that I got the menu to pop up when I shift long click on the tags column. I actually think it's a quite useful feature/behavior and does not really need a fix. (though it is inconsistent and a toggle might be necessary eventually) One solution for triggering the menu too often is to not click in the tags column, though I understand if that isn't possible for their workflow. Okay, I just did it on purpose more than once, and it seems to be clicking on the tags for the book you’re working on, then holding down shift and clicking elsewhere below it. I was in a tag with only four files, so I clicked below all of those. not sure what the deal would be with a full list. still. clears it up to a decent degree.

HA! Not even sure if this is what I was doing, but it’s what happens when you have the tag column highlighted and you hit shift+enter.
