Purpose of custom-dict folder

I have hitherto added a second English dictionary to my Libra 2 by renaming it as Portuguese (since I have no use for an English-Portuguese dictionary) and adding to the dictionaries folder in the .kobo folder.

However I notice that there is also in the .kobo folder an empty folder named custom-dict though have found no reference to using it.
Does anyone know if/how I can use this folder for a couple of alternative English dictionaries - what the naming system is and how to activate it?

If I understand it correctly, the dictionaries in custom-dict survive the updating of the dictionaries by Kobo. In many old manuals there is nothing about custom-dict because the folder did not exist at that time. Nowadays you should always have your custom dictionaries in custom-dict.

You can add a couple of extra English dictionaries by naming them dicthtml.zip and dicthtml-en-en.zip and putting them both in the custom-dict directory. They will be added to your dictionary drop-down menu with 'Custom' at the end of the label.

Alternatively, if you have more than 2, you can give them a more descriptive name, e.g. I have one named dicthtml-Web1913.zip because it's the Webster 1913 dictionary. It appears at the bottom of the dictionary drop-down menu labelled the same as the filename, i.e. 'dicthtml-Web1913.zip'.

As @Tommalka said, custom dictionaries should always be put in the custom-dict directory.

In the custom-dict directory, you can name it dicthtml-anything.zip and it will work. No need to use wierd languqge combos to get multiple custom dictionaries.
