And stupid for the lawyers to think they could get away with it, especially the first time the judge called them on it.

From what I read into the story, it was the same episode. They did not attempt to get away with it a second time, the judge simply decided that stupidity deserves a negative reward.

Yes. it was the same episode. I meant that they seemed to think they could lie to the judge and continued to stand by the fake opinions after judicial orders called their existence into question.

Ran into this article. Taking a look at Amazon today, it appears to be spot on.

The latest Genre Grapevine by Jason Sanford is a special issue called Genre Grapevine on Why They Want Us to Call it AI. It is worth a read.
In it, he links to an article in IEEE Spectrum by Michael I. Jordan, a pioneer in machine learning called Stop Calling Everything AI, Machine-Learning Pioneer Says. He is an IEEE Fellow and an authority on machine learning. Yeah, I think we can call this guy an expert. ![]() Jordan points out that "the underlying systems do not involve high-level reasoning or thought." (Note: IEEE is the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and also includes the IEEE Computer Society.) |

The horse has left the barn on how the term AI is going to used. Get used to it, or get used to being called the pedant in the room.

As you will all recall, I came in mainly on the commercial side, way back, from the jump. So, I've seen...well, I've seen it all. I have the Thousand-Word stare. The Cover Design Cringe...yup, all. The books that get pointed out to me, as "proof" that something is AI--those are laughable. They aren't one iota different than the dreadful, badly translated (Yes, I'm lookin' at you, Google) books of poetry, etc. that we've all been looking at since PG tried to pull its head back into the burrow, all those years ago. SSDD. Has nothing to do with AI. God save us all, if AI had written them, they'd be dramatically BETTER. Hitch |

So you're the pedant in the room, then?
