Would it be possible to set Calculate Word Count on a per-site basis?

I'm a bit reluctant to do that.

It would have to be a personal.ini setting--I'm not adding another sites list to the GUI settings. And it wouldn't be available in CLI.

There's also a problem with the built-in word count that it counts the entire epub, including titlepage, logpage, tocpage, etc. I've seen 'stories' where the title page ended up longer than the story text.

The title page issue is what I was thinking of. Especially with AO3 stories that have a few thousand freeformtags. (Thankfully, they've since limited it to, I think, 75 or so, but that's still a pretty good chunk of text.)

Ideally, the setting would just disable word-count fetching for specific sections so that Count Pages could take over.

Hi so I was looking into the use of FanFictionDownloader as a browser cache source. On the browser cache wiki page it says as of 4.2 that is no longer supported. But on the FanFictionDownloader FanFicFare Batch wiki page the instructions there say the writer is using FFF 4.5? Is it still possible to use FFD to populate the browser cache?

To the best of my knowledge, as of v4.20 (not v4.2), this FFF feature does not work with the FanFictionDownloader program. I tested when I made that change using FFDL 0.9.5 which is still the current version.

I believe ownedbycats(aka chocolatechipcats)'s wiki page "FanFictionDownloader FanFicFare Batch" is out of date. It should probably be amended or removed.

I didn't write that page; LoisGNS did. (I did fix a typo on it though.)

I wouldn't advise it. The adapters will be out-of-date so other sites won't work as expected (or just not work at all). AO3 is one of those.

Sorry I didn't clarify. Run the earlier version just for the archival of my favorites from ff.net. Continuing to use the up to date version of FFF for everything else.

I would run a portable calibre library with the earlier FFF and, after downloading all the fics, transfer them to my original library. Would that work?

Here's the ffnet adapter history.

I don't know the date of the old version, but unless there's any updates for breaking changes released afterwards, it should work. The January change to the URL normalization might cause some weird issues with story detection.

It's open source, you can do what you want.

Just be aware that you aren't going to get much support when deliberately using outdated versions.

So it might break later, but I've tested using FFF 4.19.0 and FFD 0.9.5. The method on the wiki seems to work with those versions. I got a clean download. Don't know for how much longer it will work due to adapters and stuff but at this moment it appears to be a solution.
