Taking a two-book break from literary fiction.

I'm currently in the middle of two books:

1) Fist of Serrated Teeth - a collection of horror stories by Sean Malia Thompson. About a 3.5 rating (so far). I'm enjoying it.

2) Frenzy [AKA Junkie] - a hard-boiled novel from the '50s, by Jonathan Craig. This book is a wonderful ride back to the 50s, when people smoked, drank, and whored like there was no tomorrow.

Oh, no! I need to know the ONE thing she won't do! I gotta* know I tell ya** !

*gotta = got to [sic] = have to
**ya = you

This one was silly, funny, entertaining but mostly silly. I found the writing uneven as if it had two authors writing alternately. Or maybe Butcher had good days and bad. In any case, it has enough there for me to read the next one sometime after publication. Rated C- [3 stars].

Next, Diane Duane's So You Want to be a Wizard.

Worth the wait - back on the main track with Pug and family. Good fantasy.

So straight on to Into a Dark Realm, the second volume of the Darkwar trilogy.

After a literary romp through Shakespeare's world reading Hamnet, I decided on something a bit lighter. I'm currently reading Armageddon's Children by Terry Brooks. I've read about 4 series from Terry Brook's Shannara world and this one is the start of the next Trilogy, so I figured I'd give it a go.

Which was an excellent conclusion to this trilogy in the overall series.

Next up: The Fuller Memorandum by Charles Stross. The third in his Laundry Files series.

I was reading A Stranger in Town, the 6th of the Rockton: Casey Duncan books by Kelley Armstrong. The whole series has been moderately enjoyable, but I've had to take a short break in the middle of it to read Working Class by Nathan Lowell, the second in his new Marva Collins series that released yesterday. As usual with his books, I'm very much enjoying it.

Thanks for the heads-up on the new Lowell, Charlie. I really enjoyed the last one.

Just finished An Unkindness of Ghosts by Rivers Solomon for pride month in audio format.

Finishing up Mur Lafferty's Station Eternity on paper and will be starting Julia Armfield's Our Wives Under the Sea on paper directly thereafter. That will conclude my "10 books selected by my wife" goal for the year.

Still enjoying my leisurely chapter a day of War and Peace on my Kobo.

Did you enjoy Station Eternity, or was it more of a "mission accomplished" kind of thing? I enjoyed both it and her Six Wakes. Looking forward to Station Eternity's follow up, actually.

I'm waiting to see what the payoff is. I liked Six Wakes when I read it, so I am interested to see how she wraps this up. If its done well, I am sure I will get the sequel.

The Waiting Years is one of my absolute favorite Japanese novels of the period! I don't know that I've ever met anyone else who has read it.
