Smile best website to buy books for 505

Hi,

other than the sony econnect software, what's the second best website to buy books formatted for the sony reader?

the most important for me is business and self improvement books. Don't really care about novels / fiction categories.

I don't know if there is any second best..
there a quite a few ebook stores out there,
some with a variety of categories and some with a niche.

these 2 seems very popular-
booksonboard.com (epub, ade-pdf)
fictionwise.com (multi-format: ade-pdf)

Public libraries that offer ebooks (ade-pdf, epub)
(check wiki here on Mobile Read for ebook lending libraries)

LOTS of free pdfs floating around.
Not necessarily pretty but many are readable.
I have found a ton of spiritual ebooks in pdf just by googling
different search terms.

in that link, there are two options
1)adobe digital editions
2)ereader

you want adobe digital editions.

If you see "epub" as an option when you are looking,
that format will work on the 505 also.

Fictionwise seem to be altering their range to make more and more of them available only in the US and Canada. I add 4 books to my basket last night and I can't buy any of them because I'm in the UK. It's the first time it's happened.

Piracy will never stop until these companies and the publishers stop restricting the market.

I can still get them from BooksOnBoard but it's cheaper to buy the printed versions from Amazon, making the whole electronic book malarkey a bit pointless. Why can't book publishers take a leaf out of the Amazon/iTunes MP3 book and learn that the harder they make it, the less people are going to bother with it.

I bet this is due to the purchase of Fictionwise by Barnes and Noble and B&N's agreements with the publishers.

It has nothing to do with B&N. Publishers started region restricting before than happened.

I realize that--what I meant was that because it's a bigger company Barnes and Noble is probably more strict about following the rules set by the Publishers than Fictionwise was on their own. I should have been more clear.

I've had a response from FictionWise about this:

"There are new geographic restrictions for some ebooks, and we must now abide by them for legal reasons. Past purchases are not effected.

Fictionwise is working with our suppliers and publishers to set up a system whereby we run multiple storefronts in different countries. Once we have this system in place, we should be able to sell eBooks that have these kinds of restrictions to many more areas. We would deliver the correct country version of each such eBook in a way that makes sure the correct geographic rights holder gets paid for the eBook. That's ultimately what people care about. We are trying to make this as transparent to our customers as possible. But it is a complex problem because it deals with issues like tarifs, VAT taxes, currency conversions, and other issues involving multiple parties."

First off I would have to ask why put in the geographic limitations before the multiple store fronts. As for the "That's ultimately what people care about." sentence, why would any consumer care whether Random House UK or Random House US get the royalties when we buy a book, particularly if the difference prevents us from buying the book at all?

I'm beginning to feel this ebook stuff is a wonderful theory being messed up nicely by paranoid businesses. I can buy a printed book from amazon.com rather than amazon.co.uk, what's the difference with ebooks?
