Question about cloning system directory for new device
I am getting a Kobo Elipsa, however I am interesting retaining as much of my configurations and system information from my Kobo Libra 2.
Is it possible to just... copy everything from the root directory of my Kobo Libra and paste it into the directory of the Elipsa? As long as they are running the same version of Nickle, that should be fine. While I could simply reinstall my various tweaks and changes that were implemented onto my Libra 2, if there is an easier method to have my same configuration I'd obviously want to take that first most. Just concerned I'm gonna bug / brick the thing if I just clone the directory. Additional details: I have nicklemenu, koreader and plato installed alongside other tweaks / mods. Thanks for reading (and helping...?) in advance. |

No.
But you can copy all reading status* with Kobo Utilities on Calibre, send the ebooks and then eject. Then reconnect and update the database reading status and other things with Kobo Utilities. You need to separately install any addons. The config file and other sertings are not compatible. [* This is Kobo My Books, KOReader has its own settings which can be copied once the ebooks are installed and a fresh KOReader install is done] |

Also, it is good to know that the koreader info is stored and can be transferred to the new device easily! |

A rebuild can be rewarding. Particularly if you've been using something like koreader for a very long time, on rebuild you may find new/better ways to do what you want, or just entirely new features. You may even decide stock Kobo is now good enuf.
It's kind of like how teaching can be the best method of further learning once you are already knowledgeable in a field. |

This question comes up a lot.
Most information is stored inside the database of your Kobo. Here you can find a small guide on how to copy the database of your old device to your new one: -> https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=336182 |

for me the elipsa (1) was 320 dollars including the sleep cover case. if i got the elipsa 2e, with the official kobo case it would be around 465.
the reason i wanted an elipsa in the first place was mostly for studying and notetaking. while i love my comfort light of my libra2 and that very comfort on the elipsa 2e was compelling. the price point of the 2e was just too steep for me. if i were to read in bed or at night i'd be using my libra2 :P its onehanded and lightweight. i also prefer the chassis of the elipsa (1), almost metallic. the 2e is ecologically conscious and i admire that, but i believe it is too an ecologically conscious decision to buy an older make of a device that people are less inclined to pick up. the processor of the 2e is 2 hz compared to the 1.8 hz on the 1. and the libra2 has a processor of 1hz. i mean, the libra2 runs at the speed that i consider fine enough, so 1.8 hz on the 1 is a happy upgrade, and the extra .2 is not a big deal to me. i am very very happy with my choice with the 1. the unboxing experience also felt quite premium, it felt like a kind of special experience opening it up! might seem like strange reasons, but that's why for me i made my choice :P |

When I got my Libra 2, what I did was update the firmware and install the patches and NickelMenu.
Then I copied over all the eBooks, configuration files,, fonts, database, etc. Rebooted and voila. |

The Sage, Elipsa and Elipsa 2 have special extra entries in the config files you don't want to lose. You need to factory reset if you mess those up.
