ha, that does make sense. i've heard that about rice and pigeons as well, thus why now at weddings you should throw confettis instead of rice... well, i won't give any bread to the ducklings, just to be safe. i'll just watch them paddling around and giggle inanely at the ineffable cuteness.

I always throw rice at weddings - but I leave it in the bags.

Overcooked rice, chilled slightly, might be another option. But only if you didn't want to remain friends with the bride or groom...

(as for not feeding ducks bread, it's not just Herefordshire council that are trying to stop it, Hertfordshire cc is also trying to - at least near where my parents live. And down in Hampshire/Dorset there's a place you can buy bags of corn and seeds to feed the ducks and swans in Christchurch)

Our Texas ducklings pretty much follow their mamas like tradition and nature dictate, and they quack in American English (with a Texas twang.)

These "quackers" live at the our small neighborhood lake.



Sometimes the little yellowish quacklettes wander off by themselves, as this one did. I guess they're more independent from the get-go, or they just get lost easily.


After checking with the local feed store a few years ago, I've been feeding the ducks "cracked corn." They really like it. It stays on top of the water for a bit before sinking, and as it sinks, they just bob for it. I often just place a fistful on the ground for them when they're out of the water just walking around.



You'd fit in with your quackin' cousins just fine here, daffy.

Oh, all these cute ducklings remind me of the picture book called 'Make way for ducklings' about a family of ducks living in Boston. The ducklings were called: Jack, Kack, Lack, Mack, Nack, Ouack, Pack, and Quack.

the mama duck had blue stripes on her wings, and there are definitely fish in the canal, so i think it works...

They are pretty in the pond, but a pain in the nether regions when the nest in the yard....
