Last night I watched the first episode of Candela Obscura on the Critical Role YouTube page. And I'm hooked. It's a horror/steampunkish/victorian/fantasy TTRPG. Not much horror in this first episode, but it's good (note it isn't DnD, but a new game system).
Tonight I watched The Blair Witch Project for the first time in years and it was a lot shorter/faster than I remembered it to be. I still enjoyed it. I also watched The Silence of the Lambs, which I do at least once a year. Still one of my favourites. For tomorrow I'm thinking Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. Which reminded me how in the 90s there was a period that a big music star sang a song for a movie, often for the end title, and it became a huge hit. Bryan Adams seems to be the one doing that the most. You don't really get that anymore (excluding Disney animated movies). Nowadays it seems people appreciate it if the whole soundtrack of a movie or tv series is just right (Yellowjackets, Stranger Things, Guardians of the Galaxy, etc). |

Watched game 4 of the Stanley Cup playoffs. Reminded me of that old joke about going to a fight and a hockey game broke out. The Golden Knights won 3-2 and took a 3-1 lead in the race to the Cup.

Last night I watched the documentary Being Mary Tyler Moore on (HBO) Max. Tonight I watched the first 3 episodes of Mary Tyler Moore Show on Prime. It aired 50 years ago and I watched it from the first year I lived in New York. It was one of the CBS comedies that aired on Saturday nights.
One thing that was annoying in watching MTM Show was that the music the start and near the end is so loud, so I turn down the volume and for most of the show dialog, I have to turn up the volume. The music was way too loud. Also annoying were the door buzzers (the one to her apartment) being so loud. Today I also watched some livestreams on YouTube. |

I was surprised that I liked the first episode as much as I did. I was expecting it to be NOT good, but... Hitch |

By the way: I understand that not only has season 11 been greenlit, but that filming for it has already begun. Last edited by DiapDealer; 06-15-2023 at 10:54 AM. |

I watched another episode of Critical Role, it finished off the first assignment and they got a new assignment.
One of the players irritates me, because he has what others have described as "main character syndrome". He always wants to one up other players and thinks he the best. It's really starting to grate on me. But he'll leave CR by episode 27, his behaviour was apparently due to substance abuse. So just 10 more episodes to go before that. |

Friday night I watched Astrid S2 E7 on PBS Passport and then the latest episode of Happy Valley in S3 that Acorn is showing (I think AMC+ has had the whole season). Wasn't going to watch so much TV, but after that I started watching The Beautiful Lie (Australian series from 2015 with Sarah Snook), which is like watching a car crash but hard to stop watching (first two episodes).

Still working through Britbox series-
Suspect with James Nesbitt is an interesting production - each 21m episode is one scene with one co-star. Redemption- not a big fan of Paula Malcomson in Ray Donovan but she's OK in this. Sherwood with David Morrissey and a few other familiar faces is pretty good. Sister Boniface didn't make the cut; ditto Rosemary and Thyme, though we may give that another chance if we get desperate. Now watching Three Pines on Prime - the books started to drag for me after a while so I didn't have high expectations, but the show's not bad - mostly about Gamache's team. The townsfolk are there but mostly just in the background so it doesn't bog down on their tiresome troubles. Running out of Britbox stuff so keeping fingers crossed for Prime Day $2 subscription deals so we can catch up on Acorn and PBS series. |
