another Calibre winerror 5 issue

Hi guys, hope get some help with my winerror 5 issue.
Run Calibre 6.21 on my win11 laptop, few different libraries (science, diy, belletristic,...) are on an external HD to manage them and yes, it works well.

From time to time I synchro these libs with the libs I have on another HD connected to a Raspberry Pi running in my local network. So different laptops in my network have access to all the libraries as well.

All worked fine until the last synchro of my belletristic lib, then get this error:
PermissionError:[WinError 5] Access is denied: '\\\\192.168.1.xxx\\public\\calibre\\libraries\\be lletristik\\.caltrash'

And yes: .caltrash folder has read and write permissions
And yes: folder has the right user and group
And no: No other running laptop running Calibre at the same time, just one Calibre running
And yes: Start Calibre on windows as Admin.

Can load my other lib (example science, diy, kitchen,...) with no problem, but find out they don't have this .caltrash folder.

So have no idea what can I do now, but really hope one knows.
Appreciate your help very much.

Calibre is not designed to use Networked drives. (the 192.x.x.x gives that away )

@Sarah - What happens if you move the .caltrash folder out of the belletristik [fiction] library?

yes, thought about too and deleted .caltrash manually, but when changed to belletristic library, winerror 5 apperas again, and Calibre created again a new folder .caltrash

Confirmed - there must be an indicator somewhere that a .caltrash folder has been created for a library.

Probably this in the library preferences: "last_expired_trash_at"

Yep, if I delete that entry in the library database and the .caltrash folder they don't get recreated when I open that library.

So, it seems that the advent of .caltrash and folder locking have hardened the "Don't put your calibre library on a network drive" edict.

Maybe there is a case for a .caltrash opt-out. A Remove book or Remove format would do a hard delete - i.e. nothing moved to .caltrash, or OS trash/recycle bins. Probably make it a global option via a Tweak.

Not much, apart from revert to an earlier release, I'd suggest 6.18.1 or maybe 6.19.1.

It's in the library database - metadata.db.

I used DB Browser for SQLite, its free.

This is what I did to find and delete it, with calibre closed:

But that only 'fixes' it until the next Remove Book/Format.

thx BetterRed, that was a big help. Did what you wrote and now all is working again,,,so happy...ok, is just a workaround, but deleting the record before synchronizing is an easy job...thx a lot...
