I just updated to the newest version. Unfortunately, when I run the plugin, after downloading the selected stories, the plugin causes Calibre to lock up. I've tried (and downloaded from two different sites) with the same result.

I downloaded the posted version through Calibre to be sure I was using the same zip, but I'm not seeing any issues.
Can you run Calibre in debug (under Calibre's Preferences dropdown), try again and post the debug log? I have Calibre 6.19.1. Last edited by JimmXinu; 06-02-2023 at 02:02 PM. |

I tried but while I was trying to set up a few new downloads, I got the Win 10 version of a BSOD. It's taken the computer this long just to reboot. I suspect that whatever caused the BSOD may have been causing other apps to have issues. I'd do some more troubleshooting, but unfortunately I need to turn my focus back to work. I probably won't be back to FFF until next week. If I continue to have troubles, I'll run the debug and let you know what I find.

ngl, a BSOD (or similar) sounds like a system issue. Would check for nasties with MalwareBytes (you can use it alongside your regular a/v as long as realtime isn't enabled) and HDDScan/memtest.

Custom Columns settings
Hello!
Would it be possible to set different custom column settings for different sites in personal.ini? Like a general setting in defaults and under overrides for the site under [name.com] the custom column settings for this specific site? When I tried that, it didn't override the default settings. Thanks! |

Yes. I've done it for site settings and individual story sections.
Would check that section precedence isn't messing it up: https://github.com/JimmXinu/FanFicFa...ion-precedence |

You need to check the "Allow custom_columns_settings from personal.ini to override" box in FFF Config's Custom Columns tab to use custom_columns_settings. Quote:
That's when the issue was reported. Looking at the last updated dates on the fics lists, the one that was still good updated May 20 and the earliest 'bad' one was updated May 22. |

Thanks! I now know what went wrong: in defaults I set some metadata to be added to a custom column, but in overrides or site sections I wanted this specific metadate to only be added to a new story from that site.
It seems that rating=>#info,a in defaults still overrides rating=>#info,n in site section or override. When I set in default rating=>#info,n and change the site sections for the sites where I want rating to be added to rating=>#info,a it works. |

The different lines of custom_columns_settings are executed sequentially, with site section add_to_custom_columns_settings lines being appended to the default setting.
So a 'n'(new) mode line in defaults does nothing on update, and the 'a'(add) mode line in site section still execute. Which I admit may be a bit unintuitive. It makes more sense for the default 'r'(replace) mode. |

Is there a way to exclude a specific story after its been downloaded but before library update?
Alternately, when downloading from URL, ignoring new stories? Sometimes when dragging-and-dropping story links from Thunderbird inbox into add-from-URL I fail to remove the links to new stories I'm not interested in and don't notice until checking the log. The options here are to either restart the download or let it add and then delete. Last edited by ownedbycats; 06-04-2023 at 07:22 AM. |

I use the Reject List feature for that. I even changed the Del key to invoke FFF's 'Reject Selected Books' action.
No, there isn't an option to only do updates from a URL list. |

Is the restricted entry only used for AO3 (and that one site using otwarchive)? I only found those two references so I'll say yes.
Another question: Feasible to add a 'subscribe' entry to ao3/otwarchive? This would obviously only work when logged-in. I think it would be possible to get the status based on the button (when logged-in). Code:
<li class="subscribe"> <form class="ajax-create-destroy" id="edit_subscription_12345" data-create-value="Subscribe" data-destroy-value="Unsubscribe" action="/users/Username/subscriptions/12345" accept-charset="UTF-8" method="post"><input type="hidden" name="_method" value="delete" autocomplete="off"/><input type="hidden" name="authenticity_token" value="removedauthtoken" autocomplete="off"/> <input autocomplete="off" type="hidden" value="12345" name="subscription[subscribable_id]" id="subscription_subscribable_id"/> <input autocomplete="off" type="hidden" value="Work" name="subscription[subscribable_type]" id="subscription_subscribable_type"/> <input type="submit" name="commit" value="Subscribe"/> </form> </li> But in general I'm not sure how useful this would be especially as it won't account for author/series subscribes. Hello everyone,
A few months ago, I brought up an issue I was having with "additional tags" on restricted stories not downloading with FFF. I found the solution so I'm posting it here in case anyone else runs into the same problem. PROBLEM: If the AO3 author had restricted access to logged in users, additional tags would not download into Calibre, with FanFicFare plugin. SOLUTION: Edit your AO3 account preferences option "Hide additional tags." This option cannot be selected if you want "additional tags" downloaded into Calibre on restricted stories. I had this option selected in my settings. After changing the setting, "additional tags" now download into my Calibre with FFF. Amalthia |
