adding books problem
Hi,
in the add books window, I would like to have the same entries that I have in the Calibre main window, that is, I have added the "anno" (year) column, and if I want to organize the addition of books, I can only choose between prefixed entries but not there is the "anno" column. Is there a method to change the preset items, or add a custom one? Thank you for your availability. Bye, Gianni |

Hello,
if I can, I would like to propose a small important change to Calibre which, I am sure, would be very useful in importing books. Let's assume that the name of the books is composed of several fields separated by the same character, for example the "-", so it would be A - B - C - D - E - F and so on, I propose to leave free choice to the user to assign each field to a specific column of Calibre, all defined by the user. Thank you for your attention and patience. Bye, Gianni |

You can assign any number of fields to builtin columns not user specified ones. I'm afraid I dont have a lot of interest in adding support for custom fields in this as its a lot of work for relative little gain.

Import List plugin can be used to make Metadata entries (as empty books). Then you can drop the book into the proper slot (using MDE).
Calibre has been around over a Decade, and fills the needs of most users as is. It appears you are trying to convert from a previous method of tracking your old Library. Maybe you can export the metadata to/with an intermediate app, then use CSV with the import list. OR Use the CLI tools in a batch to do the lifting. |

Firstly, most of the 'books' i add are not commercial books, they're reports from government agencies, 'think tanks' etc. When I add a book I get author and title from the file name.
When I was adding several batches of 10-20 books a day, I used the Import List plugin to inject the other standard and custom column values (e.g. pubdate, publisher, #genre etc) into the books just added. But now it's down to 2-5 'books' a day, I load other standard and custom column values into the clipboard in a 'fixed' order and paste them into the book list cells, i.e.: F2→paste/edit pubdate; Tab, paste/edit publisher; tab, paste/edit #genre, etc etc . . . I prefer my cut and paste from the clipboard approach, it's more flexible than creating a csv for the Import List PI. I also make considerable use of calibre metadata copy and paste feature. In many cases all I have to enter is a pubdate. I also use a 3rd party clipboard manager - Clipboard-fusion. BR Last edited by BetterRed; 05-31-2023 at 05:29 AM. |

Adding new books
Hi,
please can someone tell me how I can get the result of fig.5? If I set Calibre as fig.1, I get the result of fig.2. If I set it as fig3 I get the result of fig.4. Where am I wrong? Thank you. Gianni Last edited by gianni_1; 06-17-2023 at 09:57 AM. |

Thank you for your availability, but: - About the "Untitled", it's true, but if you have to insert 900 books it becomes a bit boring. - About "Restore default", Fig.1 is the default configuration... |

@gianni_1 - the regular expression field is irrelevant if the Read metadata from file contents rather than file name option is checked. When that option is checked the metadata (author, title, publisher, publication date etc) that is embedded in the book will be used.
If you rename the file to: Code:
Tex Willer. L'ouragano - Numero 129.pdf Code:
(?P<title>[^_]+) - (?P<author>.+) BR |
