Not sure if this fits here or regular fiction. Guess I'll cross-post.

Condominium by John D. MacDonald is $1.99 at Amazon, B&N and Kobo. I remember it being adapted as a miniseries back in the '80's.

Quote:
Welcome to Golden Sands, the dream condominium built on a weak foundation and a thousand dirty secrets.

Here is a panoramic look at the shocking facts of life in a Sun Belt community -- the real estate swindles and political payoffs, the maintenance charges that run up and the health benefits that run cut...the crackups and marital breakdowns...the disaster that awaits those who play in the path of the hurricane...

And I read it, and decided then and there that I would never buy a condominium in Florida. Of course, with additional age (me, not the condos ), I'm now not quite sure why I limited it to Florida. And I do know that there are lots of well-built, well-maintained condos, but the book definitely soured me on the idea, at least not without a TON of due diligence....

Forgotten in Death is the fifty-third Eve Dallas book by JD Robb and it's $2.99 right now in the US.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08R2KNYVW
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/forgotten-in-death

Spoiler:
Quote:
In the latest novel in the #1 New York Times bestselling series, homicide detective Eve Dallas sifts through the wreckage of the past to find a killer.

The body was left in a dumpster like so much trash, the victim a woman of no fixed address, known for offering paper flowers in return for spare change—and for keeping the cops informed of any infractions she witnessed on the street. But the notebook where she scribbled her intel on litterers and other such offenders is nowhere to be found.

Then Eve is summoned away to a nearby building site to view more remains—in this case decades old, adorned with gold jewelry and fine clothing—unearthed by recent construction work. She isn’t happy when she realizes that the scene of the crime belongs to her husband, Roarke—not that it should surprise her, since the Irish billionaire owns a good chunk of New York. Now Eve must enter a complex world of real estate development, family history, shady deals, and shocking secrets to find justice for two women whose lives were thrown away…

If you missed this at $0.99 several years ago, it's now $1.99 in the US, which is still not too bad. The links are still good...

Two of the three books in Chris Lloyd's Catalan series are $1.99 each right now in the US, and all three are £1.99 each at Kindle UK. Not sure why the difference, but maybe the second one will still drop in the US, so I'm giving series links for easy price-check.

The books are: City of Good Death, City of Buried Ghosts, and City of Drowned Souls. I haven't read any these but they look pretty interesting.

Joffe's Friday free book, which is usually good through the weekend, is A Deadly Coincidence, which is the first in Keith Finney's Lipton St Faith series.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B092R4MW7G
Kindle UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B092R4MW7G

Spoiler:
Quote:
The first book in a new Norfolk cozy mystery series

In the sleepy Norfolk village of Lipton St Faith, the locals are getting used to their new rationing books and blackout curtains.

The Second World War has brought much change to Lipton St Faith, as well as handsome Lieutenant Eddie Elsner, on a mission all the way from America. But when one of the villagers is found dead, suddenly the war feels much closer to home…

Detective Inspector Edmund Spillers is quick to declare it an unfortunate accident, but young, spirited Anna Grix is less convinced. After striking up an unlikely friendship with Lieutenant Eddie Elsner, the amateur sleuths are determined to find out what really happened.

If you love murder mysteries by Margaret Mayhew, Faith Martin or Joy Ellis, then this unputdownable novel full of unexpected twists and turns, from the bestselling author of Norfolk cozy crime, will have you hooked!

A Tan and Sandy Silence is $2.99 again in the US. @disconnected's links are still good...

I think I only keep buying these because I'm a hoarder; I haven't even begun to actually reread them. I enjoyed them back in the day but even then I began to be annoyed by his notion that he could "fix" damaged women by allowing them to share his bed and do his domestic chores. Nonetheless, I have now managed to buy all except #19, Free Fall in Crimson, and no doubt I'll buy that one too if I ever see it on sale.

Hollywood Hills by Joseph Wambaugh is $1.99 at Amazon, B&N and Kobo US.

Quote:
The legendary Hollywood Hills are home to wealth, fame, and power -- passing through the neighborhood, it's hard not to get a little greedy.

LAPD veteran "Hollywood Nate" Weiss could take or leave the opulence, but he wouldn't say no to onscreen fame. He may get his shot when he catches the appreciative eye of B-list director Rudy Ressler, and his troublemaking fiancée, Leona Brueger, the older-but-still-foxy widow of a processed-meat tycoon. Nate tries to elude her crafty seductions, but consents to keep an eye on their estate in the Hollywood Hills while they're away.

Also minding the mansion is Raleigh Dibble, a hapless ex-con trying to put the past behind him. Raleigh is all too happy to be set up for the job -- as butler-cum-watchdog -- by Nigel Wickland, Leona's impeccably dressed art dealer. What Raleigh doesn't realize is that under the natty clothes and posh accent, Nigel has a nefarious plan: two paintings hanging on the mansion's walls will guarantee them more money than they've ever seen.

Everyone's dreams are just within reach -- the only problem is, this is Hollywood. A circle of teenage burglars that the media has dubbed The Bling Ring has taken to pillaging the homes of Hollywood celebutants like Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan, and when a pair of drug-addled young copycats stumbles upon Nigel's heist, that's just the beginning of the disaster to come. Soon Hollywood Nate, surfer cops Flotsam and Jetsam, and the rest of the team at Hollywood Station have a deadly situation on their hands.

Hollywood Hills is a raucous and dangerous roller coaster ride that showcases Joseph Wambaugh in vintage form.

The Big Bad City is near the end of Ed McBain's 87th Precinct series. (The webpage says it's the 49th book - I certainly didn't count to verify ...) It's on sale in the US for $1.99. I haven't seen this one on sale before - or at least I don't have it, and still have a DTB copy (!!!) sitting on my shelf, which can now go away. It also says it's pubbed by Pocket Books, not by Thomas & Mercer, so must not have been part of Kindle's purchase of most of the 87th Precinct books.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003L786LY
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/the-big-bad-city

Spoiler:
Quote:
In this city, you have to pay attention. In this city, things are happening all the time, all over the place, and you don't have to be a detective to smell evil in the wind.

Take this week's tabloids: the face of a dead girl is splashed across the front page. She was found sprawled near a park bench not seven blocks from the police station. Detectives Carella and Brown soon discover the girl has a most unusual past. Meanwhile, the late-night news tracks the exploits of The Cookie Boy, a professional thief who leaves his calling card -- a box of chocolate chip cookies -- at the scene of each score. And while the detectives of the 87th Precinct are investigating these cases, one of them is being stalked by the man who killed his father.

Welcome to the Big Bad City.

Yeah, the vast majority of the T&M ones go on sale all the time, and also a few of the others (IMS, I think there are some Rosetta ones?), but a few just never do. Maybe some of those last few might go on sale soon now too...

I remember reading at the time that T&M had bought the rights from McBain's estate, so maybe near the end of the series he switched publishers or the contracts started being written with e-rights built in, or something, so the estate didn't have the last ones to sell...
