I'll try to get you an example.

The Kindle Previewer has a command line interface that other software can make use of to convert EPUB to KPF. There is nothing equivalent to that in Kindle Create for converting PDF to KPF. It can only be controlled using the GUI.

Oh well. If I end up doing it a lot I can probably automate with Keyboard Maestro.

On another topic, Send To Kindle does somewhat better than Kindle Create: Kindle Create doesn't like multi level PDF ToC (bookmarks) but Send to Kindle didn't mind. It will allow some but at some point it just imports and makes you start fresh.

Cannot reproduce the clipping behavior with print replica KFX output and landscape document. It looks identical to what Send to Kindle does in the example I created.

It may depend on the characteristics of the PDF involved. If you come across anything interesting I would be happy to check it out.

Hi folks, searched this thread but it's still unclear - has anyone been able to get wine+kindle previewer in a Docker Calibre setup? I'm trying to run this on a ubunutu headless server (technically in a Proxmox Linux Container on a small homelab). If so, how did you do so?

I've got calibre and calibre-web working just want to add KFX, and I already have a jailbroken Kindle with mailpush to allow mailing KFX books. Thanks in advance! If folks are cuious, I can help out with anything in my setup, it took a lot of trial and error.

VERY slow convert ePub to KFX

I have several epub books by the same author, approx same file size.

Four convert in 1-2 minutes, 1 runs for hours -- hits 67% and just sits there

I tried epub-to-epub conversion, ModifyePub, replaced fonts with TTF, but still takes long time

Enventually I just cancel the job

Kindle Perviewer 3.72, Calibre 6.17 64 bit, Windows 10 64 bit, KFX Output PI 1.67

Is there some ePub content(s) that would take a long time to convert?

The log shows that the Kindle Previewer was still running.

It is possible, but unlikely. You could try letting it run overnight to be sure. Otherwise there is likely something about that EPUB that is causing the Kindle Previewer to get hung up on it.

If you want me to take a look at the file you can use the ScrambleEbook plugin to eliminate the copyrighted content from the EPUB and post the result here on MobileRead.

Thank you very much

I don't know if it matters, but the scrambled file is 14.14 MB and the original is 440.83 MB

There are a LOT of images in the original

So maybe it was just the size and I needed to be more patient

Like I said, all the others that I was converting to side load onto my Kindle converted very nicely and in 30 - 90 seconds

Scrambling replaces all of the images with generic ones that can be larger than the originals.

I was able to convert the scrambled file on my PC in about a minute. Can you confirm that the scrambled file still takes a long time for you?

The scrambled version (14.14 MB) converted in 1 min 48 sec so maybe it was all of the very large images in the original epub (440.83MB)??

Edit

I edited the scrambled epub and replaced 12 of the generic images with 12 (67MB) of the real ones. This made the scrambled epub much larger (of course) 75MB

Converting the edited scrambled epub took 4:30 so I guess run time is very dependent on the number and size of the images

Thank you very much for this great plugin. I like to use the following leading addition to EPUB stylesheets prior to KFX conversion, it expands margins to fit more comfortably on my Oasis screen without messing up centered chapter headings and things:

Quote:
html{
margin-left: -45px;
margin-right: -45px;
break-inside: avoid !important;
}
The downside is the page flip preview thumbnails are expecting the default margins, and my wider text outside those expected margins gets cut off at the edges, if that makes sense. Is there anything I can do to work around this?

The downside is that page flip preview thumbnails are expecting the narrower default margins, so my "extra" text gets cut off at the edges in the previews, if that makes sense. Is there any way to work around that and keep the custom margins?

There might be a way if going from absolute pixel offset to percentage based. The pageflip has a smaller resolution and might get the same -45px adjustment which is further. Worth a try.
