Several Sharon McCone books are $1.99 in the US right now. A couple seem to be semi-permanently at this price, and some are recent (although not infrequent) price drops. And because Marcia Muller appears to have had multiple publishers for the series, the numbering is all screwed up. So I’m using the numbers from SYKM…always assuming I counted correctly …

And another Joseph Flynn freebie...

McGill's Short Cases 1-3 is pretty much what it sounds like: three short stories in the Jim McGill series by Joseph Flynn. This series started out conventionally published, but I haven't noticed any issues since Flynn moved to his own Stray Dog Press. Short Cases is free right now at Kindle US and UK...

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DJ5ZFY4
Kindle UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00DJ5ZFY4

Spoiler:
Quote:
As a cop and later a private investigator, Jim McGill has worked some really big cases. Life and death cases. One case, solving the murder of Patricia Darden Grant’s first husband, might even have changed the course of American history. But not every investigation is epic in scope. There are short cases, too. This is the first collection of three such cases. In Found Money, political enemies of the president — McGill’s wife — try to concoct a scandal by making McGill look corrupt. If McGill is going to stop them, he’ll have to turn things around overnight. In Lost Dog, a little girl wants McGill to find her missing pooch. Only the kid is the daughter of a Russian diplomat, and the Chinese might be involved, too. If McGill isn’t careful, he might step in something nasty. In Pins & Needles, McGill is asked to help a first-round NFL draft choice who put himself on the wrong side of voodoo queen. To come out on top in this one, he’ll have to steal the woman’s juju. Sometimes, you’ll want a lot of McGill. Other times you’ll find good things come in short cases.

More than three years later, Sacrilege, which is the third in the Giordano Bruno series by SJ Parris, is on sale again at Kindle UK for £0.99. As I've mentioned before, I've quite enjoyed this series where the protagonist, Bruno, is based on a really interesting historical character. (See Wikipedia here.)

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B006I1CFZI

Spoiler:
Quote:
London, 1584. Giordano Bruno travels to Canterbury for love. But finds only murder …

Giordano Bruno is being followed by the woman he once loved – Sophia Underhill, accused of murder and on the run. With the leave of the Queen’s spymaster, he sets out to clear Sophia’s name. But when more brutal killings occur a far deadlier plot emerges.

A city rife with treachery. A relic steeped in blood.

His hunt for the real killer leads to the shadows of the Cathedral – England’s holiest shrine – and the heart of a sinister and powerful conspiracy …

Heretic, maverick, charmer: Giordano Bruno is always on his guard. Never more so than when working for Queen Elizabeth and her spymaster – for this man of letters is now an agent of intrigue and danger …

Leader of the Pack is the tenth in David Rosenfelt’s original Andy Carpenter series. It’s on sale for $2.99 in the US right now…

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B006TXN2WK
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/leader-of-the-pack-5

Spoiler:
Quote:
Over the course of his legal career, Andy Carpenter has lost a few cases. But that doesn't mean he forgets his clients. Andy has always been convinced that Joey Desimone, a man convicted of murder nine years ago, was innocent and believes that Joey's family's connections to organized crime played a pivotal role in his conviction. While there isn't much Andy can do for him while he serves out his prison sentence, Joey suggests that he check up on Joey's elderly uncle. He'd rather not, but as a favor to Joey, Andy agrees to take his dog, Tara, on a few visits.

The old man's memory is going, but when Andy tries to explain why he's there, it jogs something in the man's mind, and his comments leave Andy wondering if Uncle Nick is confused, or if he just might hold the key to Joey's freedom after all this time.

Andy grabs on to this thread of possibility and follows it into a world where the oath of silence is stronger than blood ties, and where people will do anything to make sure their secrets are kept.

Riveting, suspenseful, and highly entertaining, Leader of the Pack is bestseller David Rosenfelt's latest entry in his much-beloved Andy Carpenter series.

Oh, and I just noticed that the first book in Rosenfelt's spin-off K-Team series, titled (not too surprisingly) The K-Team, is only $1.99 at Kindle US, but not on sale at Kobo US, at least as of now...

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07S7L676S

Spoiler:
Quote:
From bestselling mystery author David Rosenfelt comes a new series – a spinoff of the much beloved Andy Carpenter mysteries – about a dynamic new investigative team featuring a determined former cop and his loyal German Shepherd.

Corey Douglas and his K-9 partner, Simon Garfunkel, have recently retired from the police force. Not ready to give up the life yet, they come up with a proposal for fellow former cop, Laurie Carpenter, and her investigating partner, Marcus. Laurie and Marcus – who help out Laurie’s lawyer husband Andy on cases – have been chafing to jump back into investigating on their own, so they are in.

They call themselves the K Team, in honor of Simon. Their first job as private investigators comes to them from Judge Henry Henderson, who's known as a very tough but fair judge, and they've all come up against him in court at one time or another. Though it's hard to believe, Judge Henderson is being blackmailed and extorted, and he doesn't want to involve the police--he needs the K Team to figure out why.

The Last Remains is the 15th and most recent (2023) in the Ruth Galloway series by Elly Griffiths. It's £0.99 at Kindle UK today as part of today's Daily Deal, and it's matched at Kobo UK. Which may be important since it was pubbed in Jan 2023, so not sure about downloading/format switching with the new Kindle issues - I haven't been following that all that closely. But, giving the Kobo UK link here too...

Kindle UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B09R6J6KFM
Kobo UK: https://www.kobo.com/gb/en/ebook/the-last-remains

Spoiler:
Quote:
When builders renovating a café in King's Lynn unearth a human skeleton, they call for DCI Harry Nelson and Dr Ruth Galloway, Head of Archaeology at the University of North Norfolk. Ruth is preoccupied with the threatened closure of her department and by her ever-complicated relationship with Nelson.

The bones are identified as those of Emily Pickering, an archaeology student who went missing in the 1990s. Emily attended a course run by her Cambridge tutor. Suspicion falls on him and on another course member - Ruth's friend Cathbad, who is still frail following his near death from Covid. As they investigate, Nelson and his team uncover a tangled web of relationships within the student group and the adults leading them. Then, just when the team seem to be making progress, Cathbad disappears.

The trail leads Ruth and Nelson to the Neolithic flint mines in Grime's Graves. The race is on, first to find Cathbad and then to exonerate him, but will Ruth and Nelson uncover the truth in time to save their friend?

Just FYI, based on the blurb, this seems to be the same as The Night of the Jabberwock, which I have in a Langtail Press edition from 2011. If anyone else has that edition, check before you buy...
