Currently listening to Chuck Wendig's Wayward, sequel to Wanderers. Very much enjoying it, although I caught myself thinking yesterday that there's NO WAY he's going to finish this without a third book.

Not sure what to read next... I have a KU subscription and downloaded a bunch of new stuff a few days ago, so something from there. Beyond That, The Sea is looking promising.

Which was fun. Set in his alternate universe with the Buckingham Hotel and now introducing the Forsyth Variety Company. The ending was a bit weak.

This past weekend I began reading The Aleutian Portal by Christopher Cartwright. As of now I've read 24% of it and so far it's been a very enjoyable read as well as containing a quite an interesting premise.

Yesterday I finished Evil Whispers by Owl Goingback. I got an email a couple of weeks ago from Fantastic Fiction that it was released, so I assumed it was a new book. However, it was published in 2001 and that explains a lot about the story (lack of mobile phones mostly).

It's about a 10 year old girl going on a vacation in a fishing camp in Florida. She gets possessed by an evil voodoo priest, who was killed in the area over 100 years ago and wants to resurrect his body. For all these years the (once) local Native American tribe, who killed the priest, have been keeping watch because they knew the priest's soul wanted to come back.

A good story and different from many other similar horror books.

Up next: Murder Never Retires by Faith Martin, #12 in the DI Hillary Greene series.

Read a few short stories by Robert Sheckley from the Citizen in Space collection.

The Mountain Without A Name felt like it needed another element to it to round it out just a bit more. Left me a little dissatisfied.

The Accountant was an effective example of a familiar scene with an unfamiliar edge, and it got a laugh out of me.

Citizen in Space was light, quick, and fun, but I liked The Accountant better.

The mystery part was slow going until the end when things came together with a mild surprise. The science fiction was childish-just a plot setting. Just finished A Tale for the Time Being by Ruth Ozeki, overall enjoyable, bit long and the first half of the book was better than then second

A few days ago I finished The Doors of Eden by Adrian Tchaikovsky. While at times it did feel a bit long, all up I was very impressed. It was really well put together. Everything you want from science-fiction, including the ideas that stay with you after the book is finished. 4.5 / 5.

I couldn't resist the latest Rivers of London anymore, even at full (£5.49) price. So bought and started Amongst Our Weapons by Ben Aaronovitch

I finished about 7 or 8 books since I last posted here.

My most current one that I finished (today) is a wonderful literary novel, one that also has an engaging mystery attached to it. The title is The Crime of Julian Wells, and it's by Thomas H. Cook.

I'm now reading All Yours, by the Argentine writer Claudia Piñeiro.

I just purchased Montauk [Amazon] by Max Frisch and will start that today. I actually read about 30 pages of it [from "Archive"] and was enjoying it so much that I decided to buy a clean copy, as mentioned. (A few years ago, I read I'm Not Stiller and very much enjoyed that, so I was not unaware of his work.) I"ll also read the short critique on Montauk published in Critique: Studies in Contemporary Fiction, titled Montauk: The Invention of Max Frisch, by Timothy Shipe.

After that one, I plan to start Malina, by his good friend Ingeborg Bachmann, a title I purchased some time back.

As you can tell, I'm a big fan of Modernist literature.
