Elipsa 2e Shipment
I'm just curious about those people who have already received their Elipsa 2e from Kobo directly. How many days after you ordered did you receive it? I ordered mine on 4/21 and when I check the status it always says shipment pending. I checked around and discovered that Amazon can ship it to me within 2 days of ordering and Walmart 2-3 days.
Thanks. Last edited by stoney77; 04-27-2023 at 12:46 PM. |

I preordered mine on April 6, and when I saw other people were getting their readers but mine hadn't even shipped, I wondered the same thing. It took about a week after I started seeing posts that people were receiving their readers before mine shipped.

Thanks to those who responded to my question.
So, today I called Kobo again and asked when my shipment was going out and they told me it would be shipped before Wednesday. About an hour after that, I received a package from USPS and, of course, it was my Elipsa 2e and cover that they told me they hadn't shipped. No updates on the Kobo web site, no tracking number, no email concerning the shipping. Many people in the Kobo forum on Reddit told of similar problems of no correspondence from Kobo. So thanks again skydog and icallaci for your responses. My next order for anything Kobo will be from Amazon or Walmart. |

If you turn on screenshots on the Elipsa 2, and take a screenshot of a page in a .kepub or .epub that you have made handwritten annotations on, will the handwritten annotations appear in the screenshot? Thanks!

Can you markup sideloaded epubs or kepubs that were not bought from Kobo?
My proposed use case: take a Word .docx manuscript, convert it to .kepub in Calibre; sideload from Calibre to the Elipsa 2e, markup the sideloaded kepub using the Kobo pen, screenshot the marked-up pages, and send the resulting screenshot .png files via email to the author of the original Word document. Will that work? Many thanks! |

Pen is for PDFs and Notebooks. It's madness with epub or kepub. Better to use the touch keyboard and text. Only Advanced Notebook converts pen to text and shapes. PDFs can simply be copied back to computer. I've done maybe nearly 1000 docx conversions to epub (only used kepub till I discovered it existed) and read back the text annotations with calibre for a text editor open beside original document (switched from Word to LO Writer about 2014 or 2015 entirely). I used to use "tabbed" Notebook++ editor for copied back annotations but a while after switching to Linux I switched to KATE, which is nearly identical. The only difference for Kobo with bought vs Sideloaded seems to be Sync. Madness using images / png annotation with epubs, but you can if you want to. The kepub is proprietary to Kobo. I prefer to use epub, as that's what is sent to Amazon, Google, Apple, B&N, Kobo, Smashwords etc. Also epub rather than kepub for my 3 non-kobo ereaders that are not Kindles. Apps on Android are epub, not kepub. But for the three or four methods of export text annotations (or Pen) from Kobo, the kepub vs epub vs sideloaded vs bought makes no difference. Pen is fine to mark-up layout errors on PDFs for POD, or stuff on instruction /manual PDFs. Makes no sense for epub/kepub for export to computer and part of edit / proof / annotate / edit workflow cycle. Last edited by Quoth; 05-05-2023 at 04:31 PM. |

Quoting quoth, "Madness using images / png annotation with epubs, but you can if you want to."
I get sent manuscripts from other authors to read sometimes and prefer to convert them to kepubs and read the text on my Kobo (currently, Clara 2e and Libra 2) rather than in hardcopy or in Word. I often send back screenshots of pages I've put highlights on. It works quite well for them and for me. But I'm eying the Elipsa 2e as a way to also put standard proofreader's marks on the screens. So, my workflow isn't your workflow, old boy. Mine is: a friend asks me to read a manuscript; I want to read it comfortably, so I put it on my Kobo; I'm not about to fiddle around with the ridiculous onscreen keyboard on the Kobo and instead just highlight things that the original author should revisit. I never edit the original author's Word document. However, it'd be handy to be able to put a "delete" curlycue over an extraneous word or to be able to add a scrawled "cliché!" in the margins. And, of course, Kobo's sales info for the Elipsa 2e shows it being used to mark up a Kepub with handwriting: https://www.chapters.indigo.ca/en-ca...8704-item.html Also, I've long taken screenshots of Kobo pages I've highlighted and dumped them into Evernote, which performs OCR on them, making them searchable. I've got a "saved search" on Evernote with the following parameters; it makes it easy to search just within Kobo screen captures: Code:
matching ALL of the following: contains words starting with "screen_" containing image/png with advanced filters "intitle:png" ![]() (Yes, I also export annotations into Calibre and into plain-text files, as well. And I have all of my ebooks knocked down to text files in Textile format and can search my entire library with very sophisticated search strings using a grep utility.) All best wishes, Rob (Past President, Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America) Last edited by RobertJSawyer; 05-05-2023 at 06:12 PM. |

Well, with Sage or Elipsa or Elipsa 2 you can use pen & Screen shots and/or use the keyboard for text.
A BT keyboard does work any place the onscreen keyboard can be used, but I only highlight a big chunk and type a word or two, or an abbreviated equivalent of markup. Also sideloaded vs bought doesn't matter. You have choice and it works unlike the crazy Amazon to-and-fro and print-replica etc of the Scribe. Last edited by Quoth; 05-06-2023 at 09:27 AM. |

The first Elipsa has the Caecilia font but the 2e does not. Firmware version is 4.36.21095. I didn't find any mention of it in this thread.
Anyhow, I installed some fonts and will try them. For me, the improved power button and the additional speed made the upgrade worth it for me. IRS tax refund helped. The textured back is nice. I'm kind of meh about the light color (nice but nothing to get excited about). What's the little wire thing for? Looks like what I use on my phone for changing the sim card. I don't see a hole for it on the ereader or the pen. It's a replacement tip for the pen; just thought of that this morning. Last edited by hobnail; 05-11-2023 at 12:43 PM. |

The power LED isn't also a reset button? The LED is very small on the original Elipsa.

Is there any trick to getting a Bluetooth keyboard to work with the Elipsa 2E (or any other Kobo)? I've got one from Targus that the Kobo finds but fails to pair with. Thanks!
