Also the USA is less than 13% of world population. Other places have GSM/EDGE and 3G and few are turning off both. Most if not all "International 3G" Kindles do GSM and EDGE also. New smart utility meters, depending on country and utility, often use GSM/EDGE and/or 3G, none seem to have 4G or 5G. |

AT&T already shut down its 2G GSM some time before any 3G in USA closed. Though Sprint was bought by T-Mobile it never used GSM. Last edited by Quoth; 04-29-2023 at 04:30 PM. |

Public.
Also not everyone has home WiFi or allowed to use Work WIFi for own gadgets. Quote:
Hence Wifi points fed by Mobile with a SIM are a real product. Expensive. Not everyone has data tariffs. I'll be surprised if Amazon switch off the Cell service inside next five years and even if they did, they'll not remove delivery charges because why should they with over 90% of the English Language eBook market worldwide. What we'd like and what's realistically going to happen often have no relationship. |

As it stands Amazon can claim that they pay a 70% royalty for Kindle ebooks when the reality is they actually pay far less because of delivery charges. I see no incentive for them to change that.
