Format Issues - help with diagnosis

Recently I had two books that had issues on the Kindle(s). I don't normally deal a lot with internals so if somebody could tutor me on diagnosis / solutions.

I had a book that displayed fine on the Android app but on two older Paperwhites it ran over the edges (margins) and nothing I set in the format settings seemed to change shrink margins.
I had another book that in several spots on the Android it would repeat the same chapter a bunch of times (10?) and I could only get around it by jumping ahead and moving backwards. Didn't notice this on the paperwhite but I'm not positive about that

I wanted to use the "quality check" calibre plugin but it wants to check every book in the library plus there is 30-40 (more?) options which check just one minor issue--nothing that checks a bunch of stuff.

Any idea what's going on with either of these?

Not without looking at the code in the editor.
