From what's been said in other threads, Fictionwise wants to support ePub with eReader DRM. That has not yet happened. And to be honest, I hope it never does.

If it is not yet happened why you write:

I can see people with a 505 or 700 purchasing ePub from Fictionwise to find out it doesn't work and then not being able to return it.

Well, I for one would be very upset if I spent money on the e-reader, with or without the 20% coupon, and then MORE money on ebooks to find out they did not work on my ereader. I also really hate ads that are misleading. I will definitely tell all of my friends and family who see this ereader NOT to buy it.

I'm confused over whether fictionwise does or doesn't sell epub books. But it doesn't really matter to me. I will continue to stay away from them. I have no problem shopping at BooksonBoard and Sony.

ePub is universal format and it must work on all devices with ePub support.

Then why won't ePub with DRM work on the Jetbook if you say it MUST?

no DRM needed in case If Fictionwise will add ePub to MultiFormat eBooks because all MultiFormat books are non DRMed.

Over 160 O'Reilly Books Now in Kindle Store (without DRM)
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=45086

In case if other publishers will do the same nobody will need DRM support because all books will be available in non DRM format. I read non DRMed ebooks in ePub format that I downloaded from many websites and even books with pictures looks very good on the screen so I see no any reason don't add ePub format.

FW does sell Adobe secure PDFs that will work with the Sony. No they don't see ePub. I'm not sure why you want to "stay away from them". That sounds like you think they have the plague or something.

Of course, if BoB works for you, that's cool.

I didn't really find much on Fictionwise that I liked. I did look at the Adobe reader section but I found their selection to be very limited.

The Adobe Reader section at Fictionwise is PDF and while yes, the 505 supports the DRM, you (IMHO) won't find the reading experience all that wonderful.

The jetbook is the wrong device to sell at a shop like BB&B because it's frequented by a lot of non-techies and if they buy it, they'll just get screwed over when they want to read some bestseller that has DRM.

I think not all stores carry it yet. Somebody wrote in the same topic that saw jetBook in NY store this week.

I hate to say it, but I agree.

I did call my BB&B because I was curious if they would allow the 20% coupons to be used on electronics, and they said they have them. I plan to go check it out soon. They said the coupons could be used on electronics, which is interesting because Borders wouldn't let me use my 30% coupon when I wanted to buy my lightwedge. So...they lost that sale. I went elsewhere and got it for $20 cheaper.

My, this is an active thread.

Anyway, I guess I'm fine with BB&B selling eBook readers. The more, the merrier. People that are unhappy with them, DRM or otherwise, will return them, that's normal business operations, I'm not going to lose any sleep over that.

I do notice that the claim of more formats supported is still up:

http://www.jetbook.net/

I figure that's mostly marketing, anyway. According to Google, DRM shows up only once on the whole jetbook web-site, so I think that could be clearer, also.

But that all said, the unit is small enough, cheap enough, and stays up long enough (20+ hours), that I would suggest it's a reasonable choice for some users. There is no perfect eBook reader out there, they're all trade-offs, so if someone opts for a Jetbook, seems like a reasonable choice for them to make. Some people are kind of pledged to only buy DRM-less eBooks, anyway, I guess I understand the thinking there. And every time I say "Screen looks small" when looking at a Sony or Kindle, only to be told it needs to be small to fit in a pocket, well Jetbook comes along and is smaller still.
