Enhancment request, if it wouldn't be too much difficulty.
In book details: Instead of displaying the 'data files' link under Path, I would like to display it as part of Formats. Ideally this would be a tweak so people who prefer it the current way can keep it. Thanks ![]() |

To me, it makes sense to group them together: clicking EPUB opens the EPUB format, and clicking Data files would open the data folder.
Also for a bit of consistency. As mentioned in the template thread I also show an icon for extra files: (yes, awkward column name - I couldn't use Formats) |

The libraries where I have the greater proportion of 'attachments' are my Author and Publisher metadata² libraries, which by definition have no format files. I also have VL's in my content libraries (Books, Journals and Media) that include formats:false in the search expression. I'm not enamoured with having it alongside Path - I'd prefer two separate items Open book folder and Open data folder. Will it have a separate user configurable shortcut? ![]() BR |

Having a second line/entry for data files I could agree with. Didn't quite realize until BR said but it was mostly having it alongside Path that bothered me. Formats made more sense to me, but an extra line also makes sense.

I don't see the point of wasting an extra line on this. There is wasted space after "Click to open". And it definitely doesn't belong with formats. I want it to be extremely clear that data files are *not* formats in any shape or form.
That said I could maybe change "Click to open" to "Book folder" so it matches "Data files". |

Also, possible to add a comma in-between the two?

I suggest to use/manage this with the functionality "Categories on separate lines" to leave the user free to choose which of the 2 presentations he prefers to use. EDIT: After a second look, "Categories on separate lines" may not be ideal. Maybe a checkbox "Show 'Book files' and 'Data files' on separate lines" is better, option below and in the same column as the list "Categories on separate lines" --- Going quickly back to the conversation, when I posted this idea of a "Extra data files present", I had thought to suggest to display it in the formats. But before really posting this I looked at the interface and... it seems difficult because the formats are displayed in a very precise way in the dialog "Edit metadata of One book", lhe cohabitation would have been very ugly, and as Kovid says, not really explicit that it is not a book format (So reduced to the smallest denominator, and the solution found is ideal (and even more so with your adjustment suggestion, it's perfect)) Last edited by un_pogaz; 04-23-2023 at 03:21 AM. |

THANK you for your post. It's the first I've seen that shows how you can see that the data files are there! That picture post was what I needed.

If I export a book record containing extra files with save to disk functionality, when I try to re-import the book, it creates two records, one for the book itself and the other for the files in the data folder. Is that the intended behavior? Shouldn't add book functionality recognize the data folder as part of the book?

Add books assumes there is one book per folder it has no concept of subfolders. I guess I could special case a folder named "data" but in general saving+adding is not expected to restore a book perfectly.
