I've not gotten Twelve Caesars yet, but my library had the audiobook version of Beard's How Do We Look, which I'd not read before. So that will be my new commute book this week.

Which was excellent.

Then I read From a Changeling Star by Jeffrey A. Carver
OK, but perhaps too much technology for the situation

And now The Year of the Woman by Jonathan Gash. NOT a Lovejoy novel. Let's see if I like it.

I'm currently reading the second book in the Hyperion series by Dan Simmons. The second book, the Fall of Hyperion is just as good as the first book, but I think it was originally written as one book but the publisher decided to split it. Hyperion and Fall of Hyperion are amazing and in my top 5 favorite books, which include Dune. I'm having a great time reading right now.

It was good. A mystical look at Hong Kong in the year before handover, from the viewpoint of one woman.

Next up: The Invisible Library by Genevieve Cogman. A recent freebie.

Enjoyed the ride enough (especially the imagery) that I'll proceed on to Startide Rising next, the sequel to Sundiver.

Which was a fun multi-world fantasy. I'm adding the series to my wish list. The first book is a reasonably complete story, with prospects but no cliff-hanger ending.

April 18th: Cosi Fan Tutti by Michael Dibdin. The fifth in his Aurelio Zen series.

I'm knocking some of my "books recommended by my wife" goal right now. Currently:
  • I'm listening to Rachel Cusk's Second Place. I should finish it today.
  • I'm reading Anthony Marra's Mercury Picture's Presents on my Kobo.
  • Still continuing my chapter a day pace of War and Peace.

I'll be interested to see what you make of this; I DNFed it a few months ago. It was one of those novels where concept was a slam dunk, but the execution failed, badly.

I might be more apt to like it than you. I'm a big Marra fan, though not quite as big a fan as my wife. I will say, though, the language is already markedly lighter and more fluid than it was in A Constellation of Vital Phenomena. But the subject matter is also much lighter, fascism and McCarthyism notwithstanding.

Just finished up Triple Jeopardy, a Nero Wolfe collection of 3 novellas. So far, I have not read a bad Nero Wolfe story...

Wonderful. Best book I've read for months.
I just finished Terry Pratchett: A Life With Footnotes by Rob Wilkins. yesterday, and I agree. It is very well put together and I found it fascinating. Aside from learning about Terry Pratchett and his work, it was also interesting to watch as Rob Wilkins' role morphed from personal assistant into something significantly more - surely not something he could have thought he was signing up for when he started.

And speaking of footnotes, in amongst the last few books I've also been reading from What If? by Randall Munroe (the author of the xkcd cartoons) - this being another book with many footnotes. The subtitle "Serious Scientific Answers to Absurd Hypothetical Questions" summarises this quite perfectly. It is very entertaining, fun and yet intriguing, the text interspersed with relevant xkcd observations adding their own special chuckle as you go along. 4/5.

Which was good fun, except for the jarring inclusion of two non-Marple supernatural stories.

Next up: La Belle Sauvage by Philip Pullman. The first of the two prequel novels set in his His Dark Materials universe.
