I also bought a powerCover of sage and have used for one week or two and found the strategy of charging is sooooo stupid. I had used kindle oasis 1 for two years, the ko1's powerCover had a better charging strategy, such as:
If the powerCover was put into ko1, the charging process will continue until the ko1's battery come to 100%, after that the charging process will be stopped, until the ko1's battery dropped less than 95%(I guess), or the powerCover was take out from ko1 and put into again, then the charging process will continue again. This strategy was good to protect the battery of ko1 and its powerCover. Some laptop's battery also use this statery. And turn back the sage, if the powerCover was put into sage, then it will charging constantly until the sage's battery come to 100%. If you stopped reading and sleep sage, powerCover will also charging once the sage's battery dropped to 99%, the charging process will start and stop and start again and stop again, which will badly destory the battery life. |

Has the koreader + sage battery #s improved or is it still draining as yall pointed out awhile back? I'm deciding if I should keep the libra 2 or get the sage for faster cpu performance. I plan to use the ereader exclusively with koreader.

The autostandby feature is opt-in, unlike in Nickel, but once enabled there's no longer a specific concern on that front.

Did we ever get a definitive answer regarding what was wrong with Nickel in the launch firmware that caused the massive battery drain problems?

Other than size, are there any benefits of the sage over the libra 2 as it pertains to using them with koreader? Does the extra speed of the sage improve the koreader experience, will it necessary improve the experience of future koreader experience? I'm trying to decide if the sage is worth the extra money's. haha. Thanks.

What massive battery drain problems? The battery life of my Sage is about the same now as it was in the beginning, i.e. poor, but not massively so.

When the Sage launched, some reviewers indicated that the battery performance was abysmal, e.g. 8% per hour of reading (4x worse than the Libra 2). In Voja's review on MyDeepGuide, he indicated that after talking with Kobo support, performing two firmware updates, and cycling the battery, the reading performance improved to the expected 2% per hour range.
I thought maybe this would indicate that the launch firmware was wasting battery due to a bug, but I suppose it's also possible that the firmware was fine, and the shoddy battery meter was just reporting nonsense charge levels until the battery got exercised a few times. |

On the bright side, it's has the longest battery life of any of my devices that I use everyday and transfers and imports take less time. |

The (relatively) poor battery life doesn't bother me. I only ever read at home, so can plug the Sage in whenever the battery gets low (usually when it gets to 10% and I'm notified by the device). |

As far as I can tell, it might have been a mix of PEBCAK and/or actual issues with the original (and/or prerelease) FW.
PEBCAK because using the pen disables any and all PM *and* pegs a core at 100% CPU, and that obviously murders battery life (by design), down to a screen on time that can drop lower than even a bad Android phone; so any testing done that way would have skewed the results; and FW issues, because there might have been cases that silently broke PM (either standby, or, worse, suspend. I've seen the PowerCover being able to break suspend entirely until the next reboot, for instance), and those cases might have been fairly easy to trip at the time, especially in a review setting where you spend your time messing with various stuff vs., just reading. In any case, they all resolved around at least standby failing to kick in, and possibly suspend too, in some more extreme cases. Last edited by NiLuJe; 04-20-2023 at 08:48 PM. |
