I expected this final season to be explosive, but 3 episodes in? I shall miss this show.

Y'know, I expected it to be dreck, especially after the all-girls version (blergh) but I really enjoyed Afterlife and it was quite nostalgic. :-)

I watched the first episode of the final series of Mrs. Maisel on Amazon Prime. My TV sound is not working tonight, so I watched on my Macbook Air. So far I cannot get used to this for watching TV or movies.

There was one scene in the episode that was made at the TWA hotel at JFK Airport. It is the former TWA terminal. They keep a jet out on the tarmac (in real life) and use it as a bar, so that was out there making it look realistic.

I expect my TV sound to fix itself (I've reset it a few times), as it went out last week for a day and worked the next day. I can watch cable, because it is connected to my stereo and speakers.

I am watching the latest episode of Now Hear This (Great Performances on PBS) with Scott Yoo about Robert Schumann. This one was recorded in Leipzig, Arles and somewhere in Scotland. Last week it was in Buenos Aires about Astor Piazzolla. Scott Yoo is a violinist and conductor.

I was glad they didn't try to make it a wholesale comedy. That worked very well in its favor in my opinion. At this point, I'd be ok if they did a sequel.

I'm looking forward to season 2 of "Severance". It was a delightfully refreshing dose of strangeness and intrigue.

It looks like Beyond Paradise is getting a second season.

Does anyone know if The Northman is a loud movie? On the 26th it's King's Night, and with a stage on the nearby square it will be very noise. And usually my noise cancelling headphones will block most of the noise, but not all (a heavy bass will be audible). So for that night it won't be a good idea to was a quiet drama or a tense horror movie. Any other suggestions for loud movies are welcome.

Also, I just discovered Meat Loaf plays Jack Black's dad in one of the Tenacious D movies, brilliant casting. I will now have to watch it.

I confess to being shocked. I didn't expect that show to be brilliant, mind you, but I certainly expected BETTER than what it was. The "season finale" was particularly abysmal.

I would have enjoyed it more without the potential love triangle, and I agree that the last episode was not at all good.

IMHO, it was mostly daytime soap, with a small bit of not-very-interesting mysteries thrown in. Honestly, compared to DIP, abysmal.

Just...I don't get why they so badly (to my way of thinking) misread their audience. I never cared about that woman in the first place and I surely don't now. If I'd known she and that short handsome fellow were going to consume SO MUCH screen and plot time, I daresay I'd never have turned it on in the first place.

I find the duck far more interesting than her and she acts like a dithering 13-y.o. He's got to be, what, 50? And she hangs out with her Mommy and whines? Ick. They should have called that show "Bays of Our Lives."

Tonight I first watched Tenacious D and the Pick of Destiny. The target audience is obviously 16 year old boys and stoners, that isn't to say it wasn't fun. There were a bunch of references to other movies and a lot of cameos. Besides Meat Loaf as Jack Black's father there's Ronnie James Dio, to who JB prays after his religious father rips of all his hard rock posters except the Dio one on the back of the door (Dio means God in Italian), there's Dave Grohl as Satan, Ben Stiller as Guitar Center Guy (with an impressive wig), Amy Poehler, Fred Armisen and Tim Robbins.

Then I watched The Black Phone, in which Ethan Hawke was very creepy. A good solid horror film.

Watched a good horror movie recently myself. "The Ritual" from 2017. Worth checking out if you haven't seen it.

Sunday night I watched Call the Midwife and Succession (S4 E4). Succession was much better and more interesting this week.

Saturday night I watched the 2nd and 3rd episodes of Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. This time (with no sound on my TV set for streaming), I had the TV on and used my laptop for the sound (bluetooth to Echo speaker). This is all they have so far for the final season. I suppose more episodes will drop on Friday.

Friday during the day there was a promotion of Mrs. Maisel on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan. There were pink carpets on the sidewalk on both sides of the street from 47th to 56th Streets. Saks Fifth Avenue had window displays of some of the dresses used in the show. Pink and white cookies (like black & whites) were given out on the street.

I love that movie, I saw it when it came out. It might be time for a rewatch. It's based on Adam Nevill's book by the same title, which I recommend.
