I didn't have "Animal Farm" loaded at the time, but... just the fact that Amazon could, at their whim, delete something from your device was enough for me know that I would never again let these devices go online.

I would guess that the reason people complained about "1984" and not so much "Animal Farm" is because removing a book about Big Brother overreach and censorship was just a bit too ironic. or prophetic.

Yes...and it was a book that was purchased and downloaded from Amazon, not sideloaded...and everyone that it happened to was reimbursed. You said that you had some *sideloaded* books removed from your device.

I also said that I couldn't remember the names of them. It's been years. Whether reimbursed or not. Whether sideloaded or not. Amazon deleting ANYTHING off MY device is a no for me.

Given this attitude toward Amazon, I'm really surprised you decided to get another Kindle. There are plenty of other options.

You're right... I'm not a fan of Amazon. I was able to get this reader for less than $20 refurbished, though, so... there aren't a lot of options (that I am aware of) at that price point.

I am unsure how you expect Prime Reading, Kindle Unlimited, Libby, or even simply refunding a book via website to work if Amazon can't remotely delete books on device.
