But it doesn't cause a loss of data at all. I have my Kobo database backed up to the computer. Every time I connect to Calibre the database is backed up. That (IMHO) is an even better backup then syncing.

And what happens to the author payment? And I suspect the 30 day/15 book limit for offline reading would kick in.

Sounds like they wouldn't get into the calculation for payment for that read.

Exactly. The author would not get paid for a book you had read.

I’m not sure what to say. I can see it fine on my end. I wonder what the problem could be. Perhaps it’s an issue with Tapatalk which I use when posting and replying here on my iPhone. (And now that DNSB has shown that the direct link works properly, I’d say that it’s likely an incompatibility between the image and this BBS software.)

The photo is of a Kobo Mini with the Kobo’s Kobo Plus advert filling the screen.

I don’t want to clutter up the thread, but I would like to figure out what is going on. Perhaps it’s a file size issue? A mod could clarify. I chose the smallest setting of 512x512 through Tapatalk. Is that still too large? Can I only see it because I’m using Tapatalk? Strange.

To keep things on topic…I just noticed that despite Kobo automatically converting all eligible previews into Kobo Plus downloads, it doesn’t do the same for items in the Wish List. In fact, books that are available to be borrowed through KP still show a price in the Wish List. I believe that’s by design, however. Now, when you want to convert something that you borrowed into something that you purchase, you can find it in the wish list.

Also, one’s Kobo Plus borrows can be seen in My Books with its own filter now.

(As an experiment, I resized the image to be 500px tall to see if that works for others. Also, after a database glitch a few years back, dozens upon dozens of books were marked unread. I’ve not bothered to fix it. It’s a ridiculously large number of unread but purchased books. &#128538

Wouldn't it tend to even out in the end? That author wouldn't get paid for a book I read, and other authors wouldn't get paid for books read by other people sideloading, so the % for non sideloaded books go up, so my author would get more for the books that weren't sideloaded.

Bottom line for me: I want to read the book, I paid for the subscription, I'm going to read it. If I can't read it, I won't subscribe.

KOBO pricing is good esp for the read and listen package except you do not have the read and listen at the same time like kindle has. I like listening and seeing the passages highlight as I read on a kindle. The main reason I will not get it isI have 2000+ ebooks already between Kobo, Kindle, iBook and Nook and maybe only read 400 of the 2000+. I have tons to read already

Download the graphics and attach them. That would work best. The new image you posted is also not showing. It's not that my system isn't showing it. It's showing the forum symbol for a URL. My guess is that MR doesn't like the site the images are coming from.

It does seem that Tapatalk and MobileRead's image handler do not work together.

Unfortunately, it may be a pain to work around this on a mobile device.

An rather interesting claim that sideloading does not hurt anything since it all evens out in the end which at best, is a unproven theory and likely a total fallacy. You can believe whatever you want to help you sleep at night. Just don't expect the rest of us to join in your delusions.

You paid for a subscription but now feel that you are entitled to disregard the rules of the game. You can download the book to your Kobo ereader, you can read it there. If you don't wish to follow the rules, don't let the door hit your backside on the way out.

As we've proven on a Kindle that there are ways to fix the formatting on Kindle Unlimited eBooks (that can be pretty bad) and still allow the authors to get paid.

Now, if we can remove the DRM from Kobo Plus eBooks, can we us Calibre to send the edited eBooks to the Kobo and still allow the author to get paid?

How do you feel about people stripping DRM from licensed ebooks?
