Covid finally tracked me down. Six days in and doing fine, but still...

It's been very, very mild so far, so I'm keeping all venting & ranting to a minimum.

Yes. Unfortunately an early false negative test (for me) caused me to not be as careful as I might have been for about four days. But he"'s doing fine so far. Got him on Paxlovid within a day or so of his symptoms manifesting. I was working from home for the 4 days I thought I didn't have it, so luckily, I didn't put any others at risk.

Our "local" rags turned off the comment feature a couple of months ago. Sad thing is, they aren't owned locally anymore, and most of the "reporters" couldn't write their way out of a paper bag. The gal reviewing food and restaurants writes at a 5th grade level, and her restaurant reviews often are more about the space and parking lot than the food.

The comments usually had more useful info than the actual articles.

Thanks. I hope so too!

In the meantime, I'm having a hard time getting my dad to be able to distinguish the "normal" diminished taste/smell caused by any respiratory illness from the freaky-deaky absolutely-nothing-there (and can take months to come back) variety described by other covid sufferers.

He could "barely" smell the coffee I ground this morning. I told him he could relax for now. "Barely" is everything in this case.

Good luck with that and I'm glad it's not the "real" diminution thing. I've been living with a husband that has had a significantly diminished, nearly obliterated, sense of smell and almost no taste, for 7 years now and trust me, it SUCKS. For both.

Hooray, Pooh! I'm happy to hear that. I've had this ridiculous (but heartening) amount of emails from my customers, etc. announcing their first and second Shingrix vaccines (would that be Shingrixes?, she wondered?) and I'm genuinely glad that something good came out of all this.

Y'know, it's been what, 2.5 months and I still have purple marks on my ribcage, front and back. Not as prevalent, red, "nasty," etc. as the original rash, but for a few days there, this past week, I was actually wondering if the creeping crud was recurring. I've never managed to get rid of the entire rash, (or signs of it) so apparently, I can't (yet) get the Shingrix for myself. You're meant to wait 30 days after the rash leaves, disappears, etc. I may choose to LIE about the rash, at this rate and get the damned thing!

Oh, I'm reasonably sure that the purple marks are just...scarring, or something and NOT the recurrence of this horrible stuff. Not sure why they would scar, though--I was devout about not scratching and all that. Oh, well. Let's face it, at my age, ain't nobody lookin' at my damn nekkid ribcage, anyway....

I hope you recover quickly. We got complacent (nobody seems to wear a mask anymore) and Covid ran through our house in January. My Dad was 92 and my mom was 90. My mom recovered fairly quickly and my dad passed rather quickly (he had other comorbidities). The rest of us did fine, although we had lingering coughs (a couple of weeks to month).

I'm sorry for the loss of your father.

As for the masks.... I still wear one indoors in public places; why not? It's not that bad and it might do me some good and it might do someone else some good. But I'm part of a tiny minority these days.

Sadly, one-way masking isn't quite as effective. I think I likely got my case of COVID-19 from an unmasked neighbour in the lobby when going to fetch the mail.

Rant: One of my survey sites was taking quite a while to send me a payment I'd redeemed. When I went to the site intending to contact support about it, the site was down. That bodes well.
