Is it possible to rollback to a previous version? After I updated today, updating anthologies returns "ERROR: Error Updating Metadata: An error has occurred while FanFicFare was updating calibre's metadata", but only if "Allow custom_columns_settings from personal.ini to override" is checked.

Is generally not recommended as the newest version has all the current site adapters, hopefully Jim can help tomorrow.

New Version Released
Version 4.22.1 - 2023-04-01 - Fix for custom columns [storyUrl] sections. And still work for Anthologies. Hey, remember that time I changed it so custom_columns_settings could be set on a per-story basis? Anthologies are why it didn't work that way before. I'm more than a little surprised that none of us using the test versions bumped into this in the last 2 weeks. |

Question:
short version: How to avoid overwriting the author/series Calibre link when updating a story? Long version: I have one author who primarily posted on FanFiction.net before moving to AO3. The bulk of their stories are still on ffnet, so I'd like to keep that URL in the links table. However, updating their AO3 stories (which are still semi-active) updates the link in the table. I thought of requesting a 'new only' option for the author/series URL but with the structure of AO3's author links and the tendency of some AO3 authors to change usernames on a whim this would break something later. (Unsure whether adding this would be of other general use.) Then I thought of using a replace_metadata on AuthorURL but that would also replace the link on the titlepage of the AO3 stories. Plus I'm not sure if it'd insert back into the table. The third option I thought of is replace_metadata the url and use ini tweaks to keep the original link on the titlepage but it seems a bit of a hassle unless I find other edge cases (subtitles at least is a bit more applicable for other fics). Do you have any other suggestions? Depending on complexity I might just leave it. Last edited by ownedbycats; 04-02-2023 at 02:36 AM. |

Scribblehub adapter seems to be broken, as I get this error message:
HTTP Error in FFF '403 Client Error: Forbidden for url: https://www.scribblehub.com/series/3...line/'(403) |

I came across a weird corner case and am trying to figure out what happened.
Short version: The HTML longtext column had a secondary series with a glitchy name, missing index, and the same seriesURL as the primary. This disappeared upon updating from website. Long version: I ran an Update Metadata from Column on an AO3 fic. The series changed to one with a kind of glitchy looking name that looked like a regex gone wrong. In the long metadata column the glitchy name was listed as a secondary series. However, the seriesURL was the same as the first series and the index was missing (there was a stray '[' at the end). The glitch series wasn't present on the site and Update Metadata removed it from the longtext column. Any thought of what might have happened here? My best guess is that something went wrong (a transient site glitch?) when scraping the metadata the first time. Last edited by ownedbycats; 04-02-2023 at 06:19 PM. |

Hmm. Still not working for me when updating anthologies--I tried varying a few settings and setting everything back to defaults, but the only thing that made the difference was unchecking the Allow custom_columns_settings to override.

@JimmXinu -- As I'm probably the only person who uses it, I think I have idea for an alternative method that doesn't use custom_columns_settings.
EDIT: Alternative method didn't work (field failed to populate) ![]() Code:
[defaults] custom_columns_settings: ## Subtitle subtitle=>#subtitle # Custom metadata entries add_to_extra_valid_entries:,fulltitle,subtitle [https://archiveofourown.org/works/43792521] add_to_replace_metadata: title=>^.*=>The Zhorusian Saga subtitle=>^.*=>Rise of The Terra-Rannochian Commonwealth Last edited by ownedbycats; 04-02-2023 at 06:12 PM. |

It's fixed at this point. But yes, something like that would be another way to accomplish it. |

Do you have any idea why the alternative method (defining a 'subtitle' entry and then doing replace_metadata) would fail? The only thing I can think of is that I didn't define any default entry for subtitle so the replacement failed.

You don't show anything populating subtitle. Empty entries aren't processed.
