This, in combination with the lack of software improvements, doesn't give a good impression IMO. I'm disappointed as I really want a bigger reader with high PPI. I tried an Onyx Boox Max Lumi for a couple of days - would've been my ideal device if not for the blurry screen (low PPI + bad glass layer on top). |

I'm not in the market, but this update does seem kind of inconsequential. Unless the battery life has been improved. I haven't seen anything about any possible battery life differences yet.

There were three versions of the 6.8″ H2O.
Two versions of 7″ Libra Like those this is likely a cost reduction, or more available parts, or slight improvements for people that didn't buy one yet, rather than an upgrade for existing users. Hence the same name. |

It's also better than the same dpi screen in the reMarkable (note the reMarkable 2 & Original can run same FW and the 2 is cost reduced with slippy glass surface for writing (though thinner), loss of the page turn and home buttons. Despite extra RAM and CPU speed (slight) both have a similar only about 6 G Flash storage vs 32G on Sage and Elipsa and optionally on Scribe). Very often later models are actually cost reductions with a feature or two punted as an improvement. Battery life seems fine on the Elipsa and three of us here with Sage (repeatedly castigated online for poor battery life) find the battery life on it fine, though not as good as either Libra models. |

Kobo has become a really boring company. Not that it's necessarily a bad thing. I'm not in any hurry to buy a new ereader, as my Sage and Libra work perfectly. And I'm not in the market for 10'' devices anyway. Still... yawn. I'd hoped for something a bit more exciting.

For me, the ability to change the color of the screen is a major improvement. I wonder whether the dimensions and weight are the same as the original Elipsa. I'll wait until it comes out and see how people like it -- I doubt Kobo will update the screen to 300dpi anytime soon, even at the end of the year when (supposedly) updated 10" screens will become available to others than Amazon.

As much as I like Kobo and as much as I use my Elipsa... yeah this is not a useful update to me. No buttons, same resolution. I've had ComfortLight since the first devices introduced it (Forma?) and I find it rather overrated - plus it leads to more micromanagement (which color should I be using right now?) which is exactly what I don't want when using an eReader. And although has been said before, it bears repeating - Kobo's stylus integration is shockingly bad, so that also gets a pass from me.
Mind you, I use my Elipsa so much that I might have even been able to justify an update that just added page turn buttons. So that's saying a lot about this new model. |

I hope that they sell a version without the cover and pen.

The fact the Elipsa-2 has no cover and is lighter suggests it's not a true upgrade (pointless for existing users) but just cost reduction and adding orange LEDs for comfort/warm light (very cheap and baffling the original didn't have them). As mentioned earlier there were three versions of 6.8" H20 to do with cost reduction. The 7" Libra and now 7" Libra 2 replace those. Though I'm puzzled why the Libra 2 adds the Pen digitiser (works in Sketchpad) but no Pen annotation. It's an extra cost vs original Libra H2O BOM. |
