Regarding this, is there something I don't know about Google Play books? Everything I've searched online said there was supposed to be a download button for the ADE thing or whatever, but I couldn't find it on the book I own. Most of the articles were from years back though, couldn't find anything recent.

Sorry if this is not the right place, I've been checking all over and can't find anything on this, so decided I'd just bite the bullet and finally ask about it. I only have one book on it but I'd like it to be DRM-free if at all possible. 😔

Not all Google Play Books do and I'm pretty sure that's one of them. If you look at "About this ebook" on the store page and the "Best for" line does not include "eReader" then I'm pretty sure they won't let you export it. I've been bitten by this too once before.

I'm trying to figure out where to buy new issues of comics. Amazon ate ComiXology and then killed K4PC downloads for newly published stuff.

Amazon likely killed digital comics, not through malice, but through ineptitude and not bothering to care about what to them is small potatoes.

Honestly, I don't even understand why Amazon got involved with ComiXology in the first place.

Kindle for Android can be used to download Kindle comics, including newly published ones.

What Kindle device have you got registered to your account? A newer device will accept KFX and so if that format is available, it will may most likely be the only one downloadable. I have had no problems so far with a Kindle Keyboard. All books have been delivered both wirelessly and are available for download and transfer as either AZW, aka .mobi, or AZW3, aka KF8, too, since of course the K3 is too old for the newer format. I have had no problems with import to Calibre and conversion with either.

I just tried it on a newly published book, and it worked. I chose my Oasis 3 when I downloaded the book, and got an AZW3 file. I then imported it into Calibre with no problem. I also did confirm that it was DRM encumbered before it was imported into Calibre. As DNSB said, can you let us know what book it was that you couldn't clean?
