And yes, I do agree that the 10th generation Kindle is a disaster. They made the screen muddy and less sharp. And you never buy a Kindle if you don't want it as is if it cannot be jailbroken. |

You really don't want a PW4. The screen is a mess. It's muddy and not sharp. The PW3 and PW5 have much better screens.

The PW4 in isolation looks fine, but side by side with a PW3 or an original Libra it's softer and slightly less bright in ambient light when all front lights are off.
The Oasis can manage some PDFs (I tested a gen 2) as can either Kobo Libra. The 9.7" Kindle DXG is poorer than a PW3 for PDFs. The Sage 8″ and Mars 7.8″ can manage more. Old magazine scans and similar need my 24″ 4K HDR monitor, which is better to read on than my tablet. The 10.3″ Elipsa and 10″ LCD tablet are only really much better than the 8″ Sage for proofing layout/format of already proofed content. I did a jail break on the Kindle DXG out of curiosity. |

PDF's are horrible on it though. but i guess thats the case on most kindles. on my Onyx Boox Nova Air PDFs are displayed good enough, but its way bigger than a PW4 so i dislike it for reading longer times. PW4 is still my favorite reading device. on my PW4, there is nothing "muddy" or unsharp. i can read the text clear and there is nothing that looks muddy. sure you aren't just a perfectionist & way too strict to such stuff? i bet most people wouldn't even see a difference when they use the device normally without a magnify glas or microscope ![]() |

But I guess picking up a Kindle is simple and obvious if you're, you know, lazy... |

However, the easiest thing to do it get a Reader that handles ePub from the start. |

(In my case the reason was) Because PW5 has much much better battery life than anything Kobo makes? Last edited by shamanNS; 03-30-2023 at 11:11 AM. |

You also were not the one complaining that developers that have not yet come up with a jailbreak for 5.15 were lazy, or that your device was useless without that jailbreak.

If I am honest, this person is under suspicion of breaking the rules of our forums,
And I think in general people like this should get a warning or even a ban. Websites like these are for genuine questions, not to beg/brag without knowing context. I try to search and scavenge before I post anything. And I reckon that is a factor why I get better responses. Firstly, I try to give a lot of information that is specific, such as the detailed steps I did before things went wrong, my model, version etc. The you see somebody ask rudely, then someone with a kind heart responds and he fires back rudely. This really upsets our community. What happens the next time this person sees a genuine post asking for real help? Will he still help? Sorry to be off-topic, just a bit of my opinion from using XDA. But to be really honest, I think Mobileread should set up a donation page and also try to update this website. Yes, modern websites use more CPU memory etc, but at least they could put a more modern skin on it. I think Mobileread may learn a thing or two from XDA. Works for me too. Sometimes I wish there was a better contrast available with pure black text on pure white background. Would make it useable even on eink.
