The Paperwhite has an SE version that offers wireless charging, and the Paperwhite is slightly faster with page turns and has more LED lights, but the ones you mentioned were the main differences.

I thought I’d post these in case anyone is interested. I got a kindle Basic in the recent sale and I also have a Voyage. I may have a really good basic but I do think the screens are very close, it’s certainly the closest to my voyage Amazon have ever come, and I had the last two Oasis’s. Basic on the left, Voyage on the right. The basic is on brightness 19, the Voyage 17. Taken in a dark room room with no other light as it’s 10pm here and I’m reading in bed.

Thanks Josie for posting this, it is very interesting; might be time to "upgrade" my Voyage, am keeping it for the contrast but I do miss the Dark Mode.

May I ask how even the lighting is? Both my Voyage and my Oasis show a somewhat uneven lighting, with a horizontal brightness gradient on the Oasis and a vertical one on the Voyage. This makes the unevenness on the Oasis more annoying as the eyes perceive the gradient on every line, as opposed to every page on the Voyage. If the gradient is vertical on the basic Kindle I'm definitely going to check it out.

My Basic has a perfectly even screen, it’s the most even screen I’ve ever had from Amazon. It’s not as bright as the Voyage, that’s why in my picture the Voyage was two points lower in brightness but considering the price it’s a bargain, although in the UK the price has gone up again so I’d recommend waiting until it drops again. Probably Easter, if not then I’m sure it will drop for Prime Day in July.

I don't see how brightness is at all an issue. I never turn it up all the way on any of my Kindles. In dark environments, one would want to turn brightness down (or at least that is what I find comfortable). And then I like Dark Mode (which Voyage does not have).

One observation: the darkest setting is still quite a bit brighter than my Oasis 3‘s darkest setting. It’s ok but I would go lower brightness if I could when reading in the dark.

I go down to 5% at night.
