[Conversion Output] KFX Output

Hi, getting some strange errors, probably the same reason these epubs wouldn't work on the kindle either. I can't find anything on this related to the epubs, kindle, claibre, etc.

What happens is the books sit at 67% complete and the last thing on the log is this:

SetConsoleScreenBufferSize failed 87

The largest book I've converted to kfx is 155. The others are smaller but still large - 55-100mb

Size shouldn't matter much. If it is a fixed layout EPUB, try throwing it into Kindle Create, and if that works, you can use the CLI to convert it to KFX.

It is difficult to guess what might be going wrong without seeing a full log and knowing more about the books you are trying to convert.

That error is related to your Windows system. Knowing more about your PC and Windows version might be helpful in diagnosing the problem.

So some books do work? That would indicate something specific to the book(s) that are failing. Again more information is needed.

I think I figured it out. I edited the ebook and checked for bugs and resolved them.

Hi, is there a way to have smaller than default font sizes when reading KFX files on a kindle Basic 2022 running the latest firmware?

Searching around, I only found a solution for mobi files and I would not want to miss the typography goodies that come with the KFX files.

One of the features of KFX format is automatic normalization of font sizes so that they are consistent across books. I do not know of any way to trick it into using a different size.

I've been getting this error on calibre every time i try to convert to kfx. It used to be working great. I've tried different books,I've tried to update kindle previewer 3.Currently using 3.59 version.Nothing seems to be working.

What can i do here? Also this thread helped me a lot. I'm grateful to you.

I got this exact error logged and was searching here for an answer. I eventually stumbled upon one through a lot of trial and error of deleting files until I narrowed it down to a single file, and then deleting parts of that file until I noted specific lines that caused problems.

In the end, xhtml file containing the footnotes, some line had a malformed URL in a hyperlink like so:

<p class="foot1">... <a href="http:/REDACTED/Member.aspx?Id=1806">http:/REDACTED/Member.aspx?Id=1806</a>...</p>

Adding the missing second slash to the

<a href="http:/>

fixed the problem. You could probably find the offending entries with a regex search for "https?:/[a-z]" in Calibre's "Edit book"

I'm not sure there aren't other causes of this error log, but hopefully this manages to help some people with this useless Previewer conversion error!

Thanks for taking the time to find the cause of the problem and reporting it.

The next release of this plugin will fix an incorrect number of '/' characters in an http or https URL contained in an href. That should prevent this particular internal error from occurring in the future.

Just wanted to confirm success at creating Print Replica using this plugin from KPF created by Kindle Create. Sort of unexpected in that Kindle Previewer isn't set up to ingest PDF.

I did have issue with a PDF that was in landscape orientation. It looked okay in the Kindle Create Previewer, but the KFX had clipping. I think I sent the same PDF to Send To Kindle service and it got rotated but otherwise looked okay. I'll check this again, and try some other PDFs.

'It would be nice' if one could convert directly from PDF. Of course it would likely need to employ Kindle Create. Any idea if that's possible?

I think as more people get Scribes, and its support for Print Replica improves with a more complete feature set, there may be more interest in creating these locally rather than relying on Send to Kindle service.

Note it should be possible to check Print Replica KFX using Kindle apps (I can side load these to Kindle for iPad).

One issue: there is an error 'no cover found' during execution. No doubt because that is because Kindle Previewer expects one for ePub etc.

The Kindle Previewer is used by the KFX Output plugin to convert EPUB to KPF. It is not involved in converting KPF to KFX. The plugin does that part itself.

I would like to examine some examples of what Amazon is doing when PDFs are sent to a Scribe so that I can improve this plugin to more closely replicate Amazon's conversion process. I would need to have an original PDF along with the resulting file that is delivered to a Scribe when send-to-kindle is used.

The Kindle Previewer has a command line interface that other software can make use of to convert EPUB to KPF. There is nothing equivalent to that in Kindle Create for converting PDF to KPF. It can only be controlled using the GUI.

I assume that you mean the message "The cover could not be set because the page uses an unsupported format". That is something I intend to fix in the next release of the plugin.

Are you going to render out the cover page, save as an image file, then use that?
