Kobo Desktop Sign-in issues

Is anybody else having issues signing into the Kobo Desktop App for Mac? Since yesterday, every time I try to sign in using my email, I get this error message:

Access Denied
You don’t have permission to access “http://authorize.kobo.com/us/en/signin/signin/kobo” on this server.

The Kobo version installed is the latest that I can tell (4.35.16116). When I messaged support, I was told to delete all of the cache files on my computer and reinstall, which I did and it didn't change anything.

I even tried installing the app on another computer and got the same error message.

I've emailed support with the update and haven't heard anything back.

Any ideas?

Why do you need Kobo Desktop? I've never used it in the years I've used a Kobo.

I've had a Kobo for about 7 years and I too have never once used Kobo Desktop.

Obok? That is what I use it for

Back to the OP, I tried to log-out and log-in again on my Kobo Desktop App without issues (but I'm on Windows, not on Mac)

Download ePub. DeDRM can remove the DRM from the ePub. Plus, ePub is a better source format. If you want to read KePub, you can use the KoboTouchExtended driver with Calibre to convert to KePub when you send the ePub to your Kobo.

Are you using a VPN to access the Internet? When I have seen that specific error message on other web sites it is because a range of IP addresses has been added to a block list. Changing to a different VPN access point usually solves the probem because a new IP address is assigned.

The IP range block is usually caused by somebody doing something they shouldn't. Instead of blocking a few offending addresses they block a group of addresses that includes people who didn't do anything wrong. I have had that happen suddenly after having the same IP address for several days.

If you are not using a VPN, then it could be the same problem caused by other customers on your Internet provider's network. If the problem continues disconnect from the Internet and reconnect to get a new IP address.

The problem is temporary, the block list doesn't last long.

Try using your cell phone as a hotspot and see what happens when you log in.

I use Kobo Desktop all the time, even just two hours ago, and I haven't run into this issue. I use Kobo Desktop mainly with obok. However, if you're encountering this on another computer, it sounds like an account issue.

Without knowing more about your situation, it's hard to troubleshoot. What MacOS are you running? Normally, I'd recommend repairing your account, but if you can't log into your account, that's not going to work. (If you click on the person icon on the top right, you'll see "Repair Kobo Account" in the dropdown.)

Have you tried logging into your account at kobo.com? Do you run into problems there?

The only way I could trigger an error was by going to the URL in a web browser. I signed out of and back into the Kobo Desktop app (v. 4.35.18074) a couple of times and had no issues.

If you go to Kobo's site in a web browser, do your login credentials work?

I've had "Gateway Timeout
The proxy server did not receive a timely response from the upstream server." from www.kobo.com several times in last few days. Other web sites have been fine.

kobo.com loaded no problem for me. Less then 15 seconds.

It has been intermittent in the last few days. Right now from www.kobo.com I get:
Service Unavailable

HTTP Error 503. The service is unavailable.

I've also been having problems, rather intermittent. Only noticed it today.
