Yea, The new changes are a bummer for dedrm/nodrm.
Guess I will return for a refund this book and get a hardcover as they are the same price.

I've never heard about a big publisher only selling at Amazon. I wonder if it's something new? If so, that's really ominous.

Perhaps textbook publishers? They love their hardened DRM and the new KFX is as unbreakable as it gets...

But the book mentioned is not a textbook, and Random House India is not a textbook publisher.

If this is the direction Amazon is going, then I guess it's a good thing Nook books can be "liberated" again. I was going to start buying from B&N anyhow, I guess this might give me another "push" to do it.

EDIT: I was able to download my free Prime book (that I usually ignore) and it went into Calibre fine -- so I guess noDRM is still alive (at least for some books). This book was published in 2023.

This book is not available in B&N or anywhere but Amazon. And that worries me, as it's not an indie, but a Random House publication.

Okay. Sorry to hear that. So I guess to test will be whether other Random House books will have the same limitations. Don't Kobo and B&N normally get Random House books also?

This is an Indian book. Are Kobo or any other ereaders available there? What percent of the market share do they have?

Amazon stopped making samples available for Download & Transfer a while ago. You need to download it from within a Kindle app or device.

Thanks for the information. I didn't realize that. I hardly ever download samples.

I bought a few English-language books published in India from Kobo, but that was years ago.

To make some things clear.

1. I have paperwhite 7th gen, and even after I purchased the book there is no option to transfer and download on this particular title but on old books and samples I am able to see that option.

2. I found this book on mobilsi* but the links are expired

3.Kobo is a new thing, I never heard it in India until yesterday when many blog posts and replies had Kobo in them.I don't think it is even available on any e-commerce market.

4.My understanding is , books published after Jan 03 , 2023 will not be able to download and transfer even if you purchase the books on Amazon kindle marketplace.When I plugged in my kindle to PC, it shows kfx file as specified by other users in this forum post.

I tried using an older version of kindle on android and it asked me to update the app and the same with an older version of PC which was using amazon.br to login.

What I have not tried is to revert the firmware to an older version so books get downloaded in an older format just cause I don't wanna go this far for this pirticular book.
