Hi All... newbie to the forum, but kindle owner since the first generation.
I just upgraded my daughter's Kindle (she had one of my ancient ones, a first generation) - today she got a new Paperwhite as a reward for completing her RAZ-Kids reading program (she's a ten year old). She reads English (primarily), French (we live just outside Geneva), and Japanese (my wife is Japanese, and my daughter grew up bilingual). I was hoping to be able to use her Kindle through my US amazon account, and then download content from Amazon.jp (Japan) from my other account. I have seen a few websites that detailed this as well as some Youtube videos. I have Calibre on my MacBook (IOS Big Sur 11.1), and have added the various plug ins, and it seems as if I've done everything correctly. Thee problem is the Kindle reader, I know that the current ones will not allow me to download the books from amazon to my laptop, and I've added what appears to be the version formerly recommended - Kindle App 1.17; I've also tried a few others, but none will work on my laptop. How is the best way to get those books from Amazon.jp converted? I've read through many pages of this thread, and I think I'm in the right place for this info, but I can't seem to get it done. Suggestions? Thank you! |

The simplest way is to use the Download and Transfer option on the Amazon Content and Devices page to download the files to your computer. Note that this doesn't mean downloading them to the Kindle. A registered Kindle is just used as the target device, downloading takes place on the computer.
Kindle App 1.17 is useless for all books published in 2023. It can only be used for books published before January 3, 2023. |

The Apple App Store currently offers 1.40 released "1 week ago", but does not specify more granularity than that. I don't want to download that and have it replace my Amazon-downloaded version as I want to see what happens to the Amazon-download version. I'll try to remember to check the App Store periodically to see if a new version is released. One advantage of the App Store version is I don't believe Kindle can force an update if the user turns off auto-updates in the App Store settings. |

Yes, but you must have at least one eink Kindle registered to the account to use the Download & Transfer option. And of course, to be able to read the books from one account on the Kindle registered to the other account, you must remove the DRM.

So unless I want to dedicate one of the Kindles to the Japan Amazon (and later the French Amazon), I'm out of luck. ![]() |

https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=352278 But who knows how long that will work. Otherwise, yes, the only options are using Download & Transfer (need an eink Kindle for this) or using an old eink Kindle ("old" meaning before 2012) to pull the files directly from it. |

So... I bought a Kindle Oasis to use the Download and Transfer option for a book published after January 3 2023. I was able to import it into Calibre without issue, but when I try to convert it, it tells me it's locked by DRM. I've been using the DeDRM Tools with Calibre and older versions of the Kindle app for years.... so does this method require something different? My understanding was that the DRM would be stripped so long as you import the book on the same machine it was downloaded on.
That was a pitfall for me at first, as I run a Dockerized instance of Calibre on my NAS, and the DeDRM Tools wouldn't work when I downloaded them to my Desktop and imported them from the NAS. |

I was wondering the same thing and was rather expecting to see some sort of alert, but nada. Perhaps it's on a timer and will pop up in a few weeks?
