Aaah, didn't realise it was a non-modal dialogue box. Because of injury and consequent neuropathy I'm mouse shy, but it works fine with the arrow keys.

What triggered me to look at it were occasional requests to view Comments without losing screen space to the Fixed or Floating Book Details panels, particularly in Grid View.

I don't show every long text column in the book list, and there's nowhere to point or loiter in grid view - so I still think my suggestion for a candidate list of LT columns has merit.

NV has gone straight to my Favourites menu, and acquired a shortcut.

The candidate drop-down is a boon, shame it doesn't include the built-in Comments column

I like @petzi's suggestion for an Edit feature, assuming it invoked @chaley's Long Text editor. It would enable me to dump the icon-clad columns in my library book-lists - but appreciate that that may be a step too far.

Is possible for "interpret_as: short-text" be omitted from the dropdown menu in Notes Viewer?

But other users may or do have use cases, me being one of them. The tool has enabled me to remove seven columns from one of of my book list views - three of which were 'short text'.

Could you tell me why you could do that? Seeing the columns in a float-over window is better than seeing them in book details? I assume you are selecting the column to view in the float-over.

What if the float-over window could be "docked" below the library view?

Yeah, I'm a little confused. A short-text can easily be displayed in book details without a ton of scrolling.

I don't dock QuickView, so I don't imagine I would dock Notes View either.

Incidentally, I prefer the undocked behaviour of QV to NV. QV appears as a separate item in the calibre taskbar icon which means I have full control over it - e.g. I can use the my Title Bar Buttons gadget to make it stay on top even if the main window is minimised.

NV behaves as a child window, i.e. it follows the main window when it's minimised and doesn't present as a separate item on the calibre task bar ocon. It also locks in stay on top, I would prefer that it left that to me -- but I sort of understand why it is the way it is.

Getting rid of the icons that I use to cloak long text columns in my "book list browse views" gets rid of clutter - Less is better, least is best.

I'm keeping them in my "book list edit views" because I need to press F2 on them to edit. But if DaltonST hooks NV into your Comments editor I should be able to get rid of those too - and some of my View Manager Views.

Anyone know what this is ␀ - apart from a left leaning ellipsis.

I have spotted some in my Test library long text columns. I don't know, or I've forgotten, where they came from. Wouldn't have spotted them without this plugin.

Try a library of academic citations having ~100 custom comments columns. Scrolling down the book details repeatedly is painful.

I normally have the BD panel hidden.

BD does not show empty columns, NV does (at least for LT columns).

The absence of a value is not insignificant.

@Bradles Scroll Book Details plugin can help with that.

Any chance of making links in HTML columns live - i.e. clickable?

Editing mode is always in 'plain text', regardless of a differing true format (markdown or html).

From the JS GUI Tool for adding a NULL value to columns that are empty for a book so that they show up in Book Details and allow for accurate searching logic conditions.
