Hi,
I made an account on this forum just to share this in case anybody else experiences this, as I state in here amazons support doesn't help with this issue and there's no coverage anywhere else online for this. I've been rubbing my head on sandpaper for the last 2 days over this exact same issue. I am getting the exact same error messages as the original forum post. The "your account doesn't exist in our records" and the "sign in approval required", where they would email me a one time passcode. (FYI this passcode is useless) I have been on support chat for probably 5 total hours now. Very unhelpful support for this issue. I have had 2FA disabled on my account the entire time, I tried changing my default store on amazon. I was almost about to give up. I tried a different amazon account that has a phone number attached, and received the passcode to that phone. THIS WORKED!! So I went back to the account with all the ebooks etc on it and added a phone number. I tried to register again and it gave me the same error messages that I had previously. BUT I received a text with a OTP, I then tried to login using my email and this passcode and it WORKED. TL;DR - Only phone numbers work for the registration verification. Email one time passcodes are useless. And the error messages provided by the Kindle Touch 4th Gen are also useless. |

That's incorrect. You just go to register the Kindle like you did before except this time you put in just the OPT code as the password. if you are getting the OTP via email, you'll need to put in your cell number so you can get a valid OTP via text.

One reason for inability to register that many people don't see is the time. Is the time set to the correct time?

Also, try creating a new amazon account. Now try registering the kindle to this new account. If it registers then do a family link and link it to your original account so that you can share books. https://www.amazon.com/myh/households/ref=myh_hh_lnd# to add account then go to manage account to share https://www.amazon.com/myh/manage

Also another reason is the previous owner forgot to unregister it from their account. If you can, contact original owner and ask if they can check to see if they unregistered it from their Amazon account.

Right - it was a 2-step verification code that I attached to the password. I don't remember if it was a OTP or my regular pw. having two-step verification turned on may be the answer.

I have also messaged the previous owner to make sure they deregistered it, waiting to hear back. But I am 99.9% sure they did. |

It's the date, not the time that counts and some kindle models have nowhere to set date, even if time can be set. It can take up to a day for the date to be set via Cell/Mobile or WiFi, depending on model. A stupid design decision no doubt about "loan expiry".

If it's still registered, you'd not be able to try registering it.

I talked with a relative today who doesn't have an Amazon account and was willing for me to use them to create one and see if I could register then. I did the process on the Kindle itself and things went well at the start. I put in the email address and new password, got the OTP in email which the system took without issue. Then it had a captcha (type the letters in the picture above) which I also did without issue. THEN it asked for a mobile phone number and no way to skip or bypass it. Apparently you can't create an Amazon account without one now? That is odd and a real shame because some people don't have one. The relative in question doesn't and even if they did, I wouldn't want to put in their number just for this. Especially since from what I have read, people have been unable to get it removed. Edit yes, remove nope. Or I should say some still couldn't even though they turned off 2nd factor. Others could. It is odd how for some people certain aspects work (such as email OTP codes) and others they don't. I might have some time tomorrow to give Amazon support another shot. SUCCESS!
It was a LONG road but I finally got to the end and got the darn thing registered. Here is what I did: 1. Create another Amazon account. As I said previously I tried this before but I wondered if doing so from the website might be different considering so many other aspects of Amazon doesn't make sense (things should work when they don't etc). I did and if you create an account from the website it does NOT require a mobile phone number. Odd if you do it from a kindle it requires a mobile number. 2. I entered the email and password into the kindle and I got a "Authorization not complete, check your email." I thought this was odd considering I did a reboot/reset and usually after that I get the "Can't find that account" message (which would send the OTP). But when I got the "Authorization not complete, check your email" message I never got a email. So I reset/reboot it again and tried a second time, with the same result. But then on a hunch I checked my email and sure enough BOTH OTP codes were there. 3. Entered the email and the OTP code from email and it registered! Blink and done, it was so easy I kept watching, waiting for the other shoe to drop. 4. Went over to https://www.amazon.com/myh/household...d?tag=mr060-20 to link the accounts and all is good now. WHEW. But it goes to show Amazon does have some large bugs in their system that come up with some accounts. In my case it gave me a "unable to find account" yet would send a OTP, but it didn't work. But if I got a "Registration not complete, check your email" message on the kindle, it NEVER SENT the email. And of course they don't have a mobile phone number for me, others don't either and it still worked fine. It worked for this new account without an issue. If one has a mobile phone number and are willing to give it to amazon who will hold it in a death-grip, that might work as well but I was unwilling to go that route. |
