According to my computer, it currently has 12 VC redistributables installed. And that is only a small fraction of the number of them that Microsoft has produced over the decades.

I have no idea what a VC redistributable is, and I am going to count that as a blessing. (I did a search and got nothing but download pages, which I did not bother to go to.)

They are a method of distributing the runtime libraries for Microsoft C/C++ applications compiled with Microsoft Visual Studio development environment. The problem is that every version has it's own runtime libraries so you need the correct version for the application you plan to run. Given that the earliest versions I am aware of dated back to 2005, there is a multitude of them available.

This is true. But the distinctions must be kept when using technical language in a technical discussion. And in what other kind of discussion would one be using the terms Energy Density or Specific Energy?

Pretty sure I've seen references to specific energy in local newspaper articles comparing pumped hydro and molten sodium.

Don't you just hate when something you've been using for years suddenly stops working.

Then, over the following days, and to no avail whatsoever, you try every solution known to Human, Martian and Alpha Centaurian kind.

And then, out of the blue at 3pm on a warm Sunday afternoon when you get back from a beach pub brunch it suddenly starts working again.

Which something - the Search option in MS Word, the one in the context menu that can search the text, your file system, and/or the web.

Something must have changed at some HQ or other.

Windows just stopped using my graphics card. Do I wait for it to fix itself, or spend the time to chase down a solution (doing a quick google, didn't help)?
