No idea, as I've never used modern versions of Kindle app, but I think so. AZW3 files would not be in folders.

Yes. If there is a "voucher" file then it is in KFX format.

Newer versions of K4PC do put azw3 books in folders. I'm not certain when the change was made but think it was early in the 1.2x versions.

I came across a notice that the Kindle for Mac app is being discontinued, possibly at the end of this month. It is being replaced by the Kindle for iOS app which can apparently run on newer Macs.

Those wishing to use the Kindle for Mac app to obtain usable copies of their purchased Kindle books published before this year may want to do so soon.

Do you still have the source/link where you read this? What does this mean for Mac users with older Macs that can't run iOS apps?

I saw it while looking at the internal changes in the latest Kindle for PC version 1.40.1, released yesterday. The PC and Mac apps share a common code base so there are strings and functions that relate to both platforms in those apps.

I suspect an equivalent Kindle for Mac release is imminent and that it will show the deprecation message I saw.

I don’t know.

I suspect that Windows users are going to be facing the same issue when Windows 10 reaches end of life in 2025. At that point Kindle for PC won’t be needed anymore since Windows 11 supports the Kindle for Android app.

Thanks, I'll keep an eye out. I just downloaded K4Mac and it's still 1.40.

Yes, but it will only download books that were published before 2023.

Kindle for PC/Mac 1.19 was when all formats started getting put in seperate folders.

Kindle for Mac older than 1.25 is a 32-bit program so it isn't compatible with Catalina and later.

I was able to download the azw4 "package" file using 1.19 however I think my major issue is that the book I wanted to convert is Amazon Unlimited so a "lent" book and not a purchased book... I didn't really know the difference when I started this process.

Sure. But how is it a demonstration of things being less flexible? Now in many cases I can watch when it airs, watch a recording, watch on demand, or watch later on dvd/blu ray.
