![]() How does coupon's actually work? I mean, how does people get them, can they just be used everywhere, are they distributed by retailers or manufacturers, and isn't there a lot of administration for both shops and manufacturers? How does it make economic sense - wouldn't the extra cost connected with giving rebate and administrating it mean an increase in the price? |

Rebates do cost money to administer. However, I think only a small percentage of people every actually go through all the motions needed to get a rebate. That is why many states are mandating that rebates must be "instant" rebates that are applied at the store. Also, coupons are "mostly" issued by the store. Where as rebates are issued by the manufacturer. Although there are many manufactures coupons too... mostly for grocery type products. BOb |

A rebate is different in that the user must deal with it. The store sells at the normal price and then the user is obligated to send in the rebate to the issuer and receive the refund. The rebate can be a scam with all sorts of rules that must be explicitly followed in order to get the rebate and sometimes it just never comes at all for unexplained reasons. Many people don't even consider a rebate as a break in the price and just ignore it due to the hassle. Originally rebates were used by car manufacturers to allow the dealer to get full credit for cars they had purchased but now it is often a gimmick as seen by the consumer. Dale Dale |

Instant rebate is usually given to everyone purchasing. Coupon requires you to bring a little slip of paper (the coupon). Other than that, not really any difference!
DaleDe - good explanation above. |

Question... would you recommend a Jetbook to someone who does not know about DRM. Does not know how to strip DRM, and just wants to purchase, load the eBooks on the device and read? This being someone who's choice in book would run to those that have DRM.
