A Court of Thorns and Roses (Court of Thorns and Roses 01) by Sarah J. Maas - £1.99

Quote:
Feyre is a huntress. And when she sees a deer in the forest being pursued by a wolf, she kills the predator and takes its prey to feed herself and her family.

But the wolf was not what it seemed, and Feyre cannot predict the high price she will have to pay for its death...

Dragged away from her family for the murder of a faerie, Feyre discovers that her captor, his face obscured by a jewelled mask, is hiding even more than his piercing green eyes suggest.

As Feyre's feelings for Tamlin turn from hostility to passion, she learns that the faerie lands are a far more dangerous place than she realized. And Feyre must fight to break an ancient curse, or she will lose him forever.

Bowl of Heaven and Shipstar by Gregory Benford and Larry Niven is $0.99 at Amazon and Kobo US.

This is a two book collection (the first half of a four book series) and sounds great. The reviews though...

Quote:
Bowl of Heaven and Shipstar collects two novels from science fiction masters Larry Niven (Ringworld) and Gregory Benford (Timescape) that weave a thrilling intersteller odyssey in the not-too-distant future.

“If you like hard SF with mind-stretching ideas—both physical and psychological—then you definitely want to read this book.” —Analog on the New York Times bestseller Bowl of Heaven

A human expedition to colonize another star system is jeopardized by an encounter with an astonishingly immense artifact in interstellar space: a bowl-shaped structure cupping a star, with a habitable area equivalent to many millions of Earths. And which, tantalizingly, is on a direct path heading toward the same system.

Investigating the Bowl, or Shipstar, the human explorers are separated—one group captured by the gigantic structure’s alien inhabitants, the other pursued across its strange and dangerous landscape—while the mystery of the Shipstar’s origins and purpose propel the human voyagers toward discoveries that transform their understanding of their place in the universe.

Yeah, there's some legit complaints in those bad reviews. At least these being combined solves one of the biggest ones, namely that the first book just stopped without any kind of satisfying or logical ending. Clearly the book was split in two and for whatever reason Benford & Niven didn't do anything to make it work that way. (I suspect publisher shenanigans.)

Probably a good deal at just $0.99, but think of it as one book for that price, not two.

US Zip codes can have 3 parts

Part 1 is the Post office (most place this a single city, but not always)
Part 2 is the Carrier Route (also used to presort mass mailings to get a discount)
Part 3 is the fine level sort (eg last 2 digits of a house #) I don't see this very often
I suspect Part 2 (called +4) is enough to determine Residential vs Commercial district.

Tantamount by Thomas J. Radford is $0.99 at Amazon and Kobo US.

Sailing ships in space reminds me of Treasure Planet or the work of Leiji Matsumoto.

Quote:
Trained to fight, lead, and sail the ocean that is space, Nel Vaughn has the makings of a hero. She should have been the best, but Nel forsake a career with the Alliance and now sails the Free Lanes on the Tantamount with its misfit crew, Kitsune cabin girl, and absent-minded captain.

During a stopover for repairs, Nel and the Tantamount are coerced into ferrying medical cargo to a planet at war. Complicating the job are the Tantamount's unwanted passengers—a Guildswoman; her golem; and a charming, mysterious stranger—each with their own agenda.

When Nel discovers the sinister truth behind their mercy mission, her simple goal of keeping her ship intact and her crew safe seems impossible . . . unless Nel chooses to be the hero she was meant to be.

Shakespeare's Planet by Clifford D. Simak is $1.99 at Amazon and Kobo US.

Quote:
A human space traveler trapped on a remote planet must somehow unravel a confounding alien technology—or else surrender himself to a host of incomprehensible horrors

For thousands of years, Carter Horton has been traveling across the galaxy toward a distant world capable of supporting human life. At journey’s end, awakened from his millennia-long sleep by a curiously adaptive android, he is informed that his crewmates have all perished due to a system malfunction. But worse is yet to come: Horton’s sentient ship is refusing to return him to Earth, and a strangely cordial predator is waiting for him on the planet’s surface. The repulsive creature, Carnivore, arrived here via a tunnel across the universe, as did his late companion—a human dubbing himself William Shakespeare—whom Carnivore just recently devoured. But the tunnel moves in only one direction, and if Carter is unable to reverse it, he will find himself marooned forever in this incomprehensible world, at the mercy of monsters and a terrifying, mind-freezing alien anomaly that occurs every evening in the “God-hour.”

With unparalleled verve, award-winning science fiction Grand Master Clifford D. Simak performs a truly astonishing feat of world-creation in Shakespeare’s Planet. Bursting with intelligence, imagination, and breathtaking invention, this is a gem of speculative fiction from one of the genre’s most revered and innovative artists.

A full ZIP+4 does not necessarily identify a business address, only when the business has specifically requested a unique ZIP+4.

In the hopes of putting this question to bed so we can get back to the topic of the thread, the USPS maintains a database of every address in the USA and whether that address is residential or business. A company can pay for access to that database. See https://postalpro.usps.com/address-q...-indicator-rdi.

I don't believe any store would go that far in the first place.
