So is everyone who stops purchasing DRM eBooks going to bother to contact every publisher of every eBook with DRM that s/he would have purchased but will not due to DRM and tell them why it's not being purchased? If not, all the publishers will see is the decline of eBook sales and then we'll see the decline of eBooks.
The thing is, are you going to hold off 2-10 years reading books you want to just because they have DRM? I'm not willing to wait that long. Who is willing to wait 2-10 years to purchase any eBooks that have DRM? Are you going to be satisfied with just the offerings that do not have DRM? Given what I see most people reading here, I'd say the answer is overall a no. |

What I don't want to do is by pbook versions of "throw-away" books, that is, books that I won't read more than once and that I don't want to keep in my permanent library. |

To scan a book, OCR, check for errors and then format it to go with my reader is not easy at all. It's a long painstaking process that may not be worth it given how long it could take. So our choices are to purchase the eBook with DRM, the pBook, or do without. Do you think do without for years is a good idea? I think it won't fly. I do think that the only way to get rid of eBook DRM is to bombard the publishers with messages telling them we do not want DRM. And for those who have been screwed by DRM, say so and say why and how much it cost for now useless eBook files. And anyone who is disabled and would benefit from DRM free eBook files, say so. Let them know how things should be. But to say that a boycott of the eBooks we want to read will work, it won't. It won't be good for eBooks and it won't be good for us as we are unable to read a lot of content we enjoy reading. You say about 2 years. Others say up to 10 years. So let's say it's 5 years. Even 2 years is 2 years too much to go without reading what we enjoy. So basically, a boycott is a bad idea. We have to be vocal and tell the publishers what we want and why and do so without being mean or nasty and no name calling. |

With music, I can purchase it DRM free and easily convert 100% legally. With a lot of the eBooks I read, they do come infected with DRM and I have to strip the DRM and then convert. It's still a gray area as to the legality of this. You say it's no big difference. Well, it is a huge difference for the average person. And the average person cannot vote with dollars for eBooks so easily because there is no alternative other then pBooks. With music, I can purchase the CD and not from iTunes. So with music, I have choices. With eBooks it's either buy or do without unless I'm going to purchase the pBook and then all that will happen is the publishers will think eBooks are not worth the bother. |

I see nobody with a Jetbook cares that Etaco is lying to make the Jetbook seem better then it is.
As to DRM, I know for sure, that I could never get my mother a Jetbook unless I supported her. She's the type of person I was referring to. One who does not know anything about DRM, would not know about DRM stripping or file conversion. So for people like her, she'd need a device that would have DRM where she can purchase eBooks that she likes and use them as is. I do see there being more people like this then people who are able to strip DRM and convert. |

I love the form factor of the Jetbook, but without some DRM support I don't see it going 'mainstream' for a while. Then again, perhaps they are happy with their current sales projections and don't want to be 'mainstream,' or perhaps they are waiting till the DRM dust settles to jump in. |
